The only thing that comes to mind about 1888 is Jack the Ripper. Though whether that is right and if he has any connection to that I don't know.I suspect not.
Who is the Dick who complained. Need to get him/her/them lobbed out.
Close, the first (at least canonical) Ripper murder was on 31 August 1888.
(I've coincidentally being studying Jack the Ripper recently, that's why I know that)
