She worked in an old folks home but she did serve a dead old lady breakfast, so I wouldn't call her a professional.

Prompt and thorough though. She was entitled to the breakfast, dead or not.

Funny thing is I've punched more than one Policeman in my time ( in sporting contests) and their usual reaction is to punch you back.

I actually agree with you, in my life I have seen more guys abused either physically or mentally than I have women. I think it comes down to Men are seen as the physically stronger sex, so they should be able to handle it.

This is nothing, once a match day thread finished up discussing the mating habits of Baboons, it's quite educational really.

    Welcome to La La Land.

That seems mightily off balance though, should and can are two very different things. If society suggests it's alright for a woman to hit a man because the man is stronger and can take it, then there's something very, very wrong with society. It should be equal, like it is in the law. If one of my female pupils punches a male child, they get the exact same reprimand they would if the shoe was on the other foot.

So have I, often in retaliation when they've punched me first (occasionally preemptive retaliation too!)

I'm sure I saw the subject of this thread warming up yesterday with a very thick gold necklace.
    Looked like Mr T.
I just assumed he didn't have a locker to put it in.

I've read the first 40 pages of the Everton forum comments on Niasse and to sum up:
    • Expectations were very high due to the large price tag
    • Niasse came on for the last ten minutes of his first game and clumsily back-heeled the ball out for a throw in. This began the negative fears of some posters.
    • Niasse was also a Martinez signing at a point when the manager was far from popular (which didn't help).
    • Niasse wasn't match fit when he arrived and he was also soon injured (wrist) which kept him out.
    • When he came back Martinez played him for only a few minutes again and many fans wanted to see more of him to judge.
    • Martinez played him for about 60 minutes against Bournemouth and the over all verdict seemed to be he was average, but not worth the £13.5 million fee.
    • The Daily Mail did an article on the Bournemouth match (some said it was written by a Liverpool fan) which was basically a hatchet job on Niasse. It mocked the player and increased the bad feeling towards him with the Everton fans.
    • Niasse then disastrously injured his team mate Gerard Deulofeu in a training ground collision putting him out for the rest of the season. This threw fuel onto the fire for those who had already decided he was a waste of money.
    • Martinez defended the player in the press, but in some quarters the knives were already out.
    • Niasse started a match against Leicester and had a 'mare. He made some poor passes and missed an easy chance to score, which again convinced more fans that he was a dud.
That's as far as I got (and I'm not reading all 341 pages), but it seemed to me that his bad reputation was built on a series of unfortunate events as well as poor fitness and a few howlers thrown in for good measure.
I'm not saying he was clearly a victim - maybe he's a nervous type who couldn't handle the expectations, but as we all know some fans love to have a scapegoat and he didn't have much opportunity to change their minds. Add to this a manager under pressure who is unlikely to be patient with a new signing who casts doubt on his judgement and Niasse was always going to struggle.

In London as a student I played Union against a Metropolitan Police team. Plenty of punches thrown by our forwards and returned in a few brawls but I kept clear out in the backs!

Did knock a couple of helmets off officers during the annual pushing and shoving match between students and police on bonfire night in Trafalgar Square back in the 50's. Fireworks were illegally set off and the police tried to arrest the offenders but attempts were blocked by scores of students.
Knocked off helmets ended up being thrown into the fountains.

Risky venture because if arrested a student could be thrown out of Uni. having been warned about this possible outcome.

As my main criticism was a lack of a first touch, I was pleasantly surprised that he had one.

Naisse's warm up routine seemed to include a practice walk for a funeral. I was worried that he would not be bothered to put himself about in the game. Happily he did get stuck in.
