No need to underestimate China Dai. They are the worlds top superpower and have brilliantly allied themselves with Russia with the recent multi billion gas/oil deal.

Because many Britons were sympathetic towards the stipulations of the Versailles Treaty placed upon Germany in 1919. Also with the collapse of the entire world economy, Britain were in no position to do anything about it. You also have to consider the League of Nations (modern UN and just as useless) was in effect dead as USA followed a policy of isolation.

But the Versailles treaty stated that Germany was to remain unarmed...

I could not care less about any other country as long as they leave us alone. that is the time i would fight. If A wants to invade B then let their closest neighbors sort it out and not us . Let the arabs sort out the arab world if they have a mind too. And we should stop ramming democracy down the throats of every one, Let them run things their way as who are we to say what is right or wrong.

so if germany invaded the UK tomorrow it would be presumably, in your opinion, be a matter for the UK and germany to sort it out between themselves. berk.

And what if A shares the same political and ideological beliefs as Hitler? That would be an incredibly dangerous and idiotic path to go down Dai.

It looks as though that came to an end in 2007 -
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/6501693.stm

Begs the question why Britain would share half the oil reserves of The Falklands.

The use of The Falklands as a route/base to the southern polar regions for other natural reserves should not be underestimated.

So typical for you dai. Things aren't that simple: fx we (the western world) depend on oil from the middle east, and have to protect the source, even though the Arabs hate our guts for various reasons.

The time where one could stay on one's island(!) is over. Modern countries have to involve themselves in in globalised cooperation, and pick their battles from what is the common best.

Starting a new dispute: I'm a fan of the EU aswell. Yes I feel a storm coming...

no wonder, denmark is a small nation which can't fend for itself unlike the likes of the UK, Germany, so needs to cluster together with others to be taken seriously…………;)

Weakness can be a strength. As no other superpower of the medieval times could accept the others to have the Oeresunds toll (access to the Baltic), they left Denmark to its insignificance.
Today, by boasting our living standards, example democracy, health care and educational system, Danes do have a voice worth listening to globally too.

we should mind our own business and not worry about anyone else....War solves nothing but the loss of innocent lives and if we was to stay out of these disputes between other countries they would be alive today. war is not the answer unless there is a world war and our country is threatened. There are tyrants running loads of countries including ours but they are to powerful for us to invade so we join the yanks in whatever war is going on....Unacceptable and a total waste of money and lives. We act as if its Christmas and birthdays all come at once if we can send our troops into another conflict. the government love it as it stops people thinking about the real problems in our own country. We are hated all over the globe because we just cant mind our own business and too quick to interfere in other countries business trying to ram our way of life down their throats that they don't need...

Great for you that you can see, and solve, world conflicts like that. Hopelessly naive, but I'm sure you sleep well at night...

No. I don't think anyone wants that.

So you were all for using force to remove one brutal dictator from a middle eastern country, but completely against using force to remove a far worse brutal dictator from another middle eastern country. OK.

And you are wrong, NATO agreed to protect Ukraine as part of Ukraine giving up their nukes.

I'm not sure if you misunderstand me on purpose. Ukraine is not a NATO member, hence nobody is even close to consider helping them militarily.
I'm not sure where you're going with the dictators? Bush Jr. attacked Iraq, nobody knows why, but it sure as he'll wasn't to remove Saddam.
Stopping what will be a civil war for ages to come is so much different, to me at least...

Everybody knows that there will be no military intervention by NATO against Russia for the simple reason and that is it will guarantee world war three and a full scale nuclear war.

UN could try to secure Ukraines borders, but that would be vetoed by both China and Russia.
The reasons for EUs feebleness is military export to Russia(UK, France and Germany), and import of gas to most of south/central/east Europe.

Why did you join the Armed Forces if you were/are against protecting the county's interests .

I disagree with Mikras views on this subject, but ive met the guy ,had lunch with the guy and can tell you he is indeed a teacher .

He isnt a troll either, sometimes people have strong views on stuff, i made my views clear earlier on in the thread and wont bother making them once again, Geo politics is a subject where its hard to prove or dis prove, we will just go round in circles .

Not very unlike most other discussions on this board. I have great plans for new OT-threads, but I'm saving those for after the world cup.
Nice "lunch" BTW norway: you in Copenhagen anytime soon?

Its because of joining the arm forces that you get to see the real suffering of innocent people, the Falklands taught me a valuable lesson that no life is worth dying for a poxy bit of land that we don't need or want...
