For me, the most unbearable aspect of the current situation is how celebrities, betting accounts, the 'footyhumour' school and of course the twitter masses are apparently obliged to shed an endless and highly derivative load of 'banter' all over social media. This beloved 'banter' is as unoriginal as it is interminable. Its presence has been lemon juice in a wound, NOT for its acerbity (far from it), but its sheer lack of originality. Every 'Shall I bring my boots? LOL!', 'have you even got any players left? LOL!', and especially 'Liverpool have made a bid for the (pitch/goalposts/tea lady/mascot)! LOL!' quip weakens me far more than official news of players actually leaving. David Schneider's hackneyed quip about us using a '1-0-0-1' formation this season wound me up more than the news that Chambers was leaving. However, I think this poisonous movement peaked at 7:48 PM this evening when Gary Lineker decided to unlock his phone and tweet: 'They've changed the lyrics at St Mary's: When the saints go marching out!'. It's **** and it needs to stop.
How about Rodgers putting in a bid for some cricketers because they were playing at the Rosebowl... I don't know why I keep hearing this ****.
It's not funny. Even more annoying is mates who think they're funny texting one of those 'jokes' to me 5 days after I've read it somewhere else. I get it!
Having been in your shoes... not from losing half our players... but from various other incidents over the past 5 years... I agree it can get tiresome... but it eventually passes (for the most part). I'm already down to hearing one Suarez bite joke a day now! It will pass! By the time the season is good and going you won't hear about losing players anymore. It's going to be a tough season having to replace half your squad... but Soton will be back before you know it!
Oh boy. How about taking it on the chin? I don't mind it, it is the gallows humour. No need to be so sensitive. I give it out and I expect to take it back!
Nothing wrong with piss taking but there's a certain brand of LAD BANTER on all these FOOTY HUMOUR pages that's really tiresome.
Each to their own, but I don't agree. I've always thought he was a twat, but even more so now he's jumped on the 'kick Saints when they're down' bandwagon.
Btw can I just say that I think that was just a really boring monday morning tweet by Ron that everyone has misinterpreted as a hilarious joke?
I think those twitter accounts aim to do two things, 1) makes the half-wits laugh and retweet them and 2) try and get the target to nibble on their 'jokes'. I'm not really too fussed. It wasn't that long ago that most accounts were praising our academy and the way we went about playing football. Can't have it both ways.
Well I don't remember many on here complaining about a lack of originality when Pompey hit the buffers? Generally, the ribbing has been good-humoured and fans of other clubs are sympathetic- which is the bit I can't abide. Anyway, if we were not allowed to recycle jokes, the site would be half empty. And is there such thing as an original footy joke?
