WE went to Cardiff yesterday for GB v Uruguay. Huge jams on the motorway to get to stadium, but we went from Parkway. My other folks came from Oxford and arrived ten minutes before the end of the first match! Prematch build up was electric. First half was soporific, but suddenly woken up when GB scored with a few seconds to go to HT. Second half a bit more lively because Uruguay seemed to realise that they needed to win and the game could have gone either way. Probably would have gone to Uruguay if Luis Suarez hadn't had a stinker! Be warned if you go on Saturday. When we eventually found the right place to wait for our train, (signs or marshalling were pretty much non-existant), we waited in a ginormous queue for return train for over two hours, then we were put on a coach to Parkway. Huge traffic jams again, eventually arrived at Parkway after 1 o'clock in the morning. God knows what happened to the 20 thousand plus people we left at Cardiff still waiting for trains. Having said that we had a good day out and hope you do if you go on Saturday.
I've got tickets for the Bronze Medal game next Friday. If Team GB beat South Korea in the quarters and then lose against Brazil in the semis, then I'll be watching them! I've been thinking about how to get there. I considered the train, but I don't fancy waiting for hours on end to get back. Would it be worth driving cross-country (from Gloucester, thus avoiding the Severn Bridges) and parking up in a park and ride and getting the bus into Baaaadiff?
I think you would be best to take the old road for Cardiff and on leaving come out and join the M4 after Newport. or even at Chepstow. The M4 last night was a car park. My son used the park and ride; left at the end of the match in a hurry and reached M4 J18 2 hours after the match finished.
mmmm - reckon I'll be stuck in queues whatever my choice of transport. Oh well, it's a once in a lifetime thing!
