The assumption is based on the fact that he is using the exposure of the premier league to gain advertisement. In the championship it will not happen. The last time he stayed to see if we returned. Which we did after one season, thus not affecting the value of the club and restricting loses. Additionally there is no profit in selling championship players for millions.

I said we need "a couple" of years out. Meaning he will make loses and cut his loses accordingly by selling the club.

It clearly is an assumption but I see no other reason for him to hold onto the club which is niether making him any money or providing sports direct with global free advertisement.

I have to agree that relegation will see the back of him. He cannot "loan" the club more money than he already has, he runs the risk of not getting it back. It can't go into administration, because of MASH Holdings' other investments being able to bail it out. He won't stump up when the chips are down - he did in the first instance because he knew what was coming. He won't do so again.

I'm not sure what it would take to get Ashley out. Maybe a few years out, dwindling crowds and a lack of exposure. We'd have to do a Leeds or someone offer him the going rate plus his losses from the initial purchase.

Highly unlikely given financial fair play will have driven off any potential sugar daddies. The only people you could see being interested now are those with a pre-existing passion for the club. I doubt we'll see any successful Shearer/Moat/Sage headed consortium any time soon. Misery for the foreseeable future. Yeah.

I would guess a significant return on his investment would get him to sell. He's put in £262m into this little side project so far so I'd say £300m would shift him, maybe a bit more. One of the Chronicle/Journal journos tweeted a few months back that it would be about that figure, on the premise of some sort of insider knowledge so I'll leave it you whether to believe it or not. The thing is there is nobody to buy at that price so he can't sell up now. Now if we don't spend much this summer and have another season of banking £60m, then that might offset the asking price significantly. You've got to wonder if that's what Ashley is doing in stockpiling all this money as none of it has left the club yet. Would fans take another year of mediocrity and banking the cash to get rid of Ashley? What about 2 or 3 or 4 years?

Pretty much what I said. Its not going to happen looking at it. I think he'll continue to do just enough to keep us entrenched in mid table, we've never appealed to significant investors. It is obviously depressing for people but the most likely scenario is we will just drift along doing just enough to keep pace while making a profit and boosting the sales of his main business.

We might have the odd good year.

I have to be honest if it meant Ashley staying or to have him leave it meant the team doing a 'Leeds' for a deacde or more I would def prefer the former.

I think a lot will feel the same. After many years though, I've come to realise that the PL is not the be all and end. Supporting the club continues wherever you ply your trade. The difficult times experienced by Leeds would be challenging for any supporter. Prob easier for me because I have to be honest that the PL has killed some of my love of football. There are still great moments, exciting times, heart wrenching moments but I'm left with an overall aftertaste of over hyped bollocks. The top level has lost some of what made it great. Personally speaking the loss of Englishness in the league is part of that too. Overall, it just doesn't engage me the way it used too. I felt some of it come back in our championship year but it was soon back to the same cold feeling once we came back up.
