Chillax dude! I wasn't talking about the badge as a reflection of where the club is (or was) overall - I was merely talking about the old badge typifying Briatore's weird vision of making QPR a 'boutique' club for his wealthy pals. As far as the badge goes however, removing the ridiculous crown, and whatever the hell those things at the side were, and reverting to a simpler design, the elements of which we've used before is hardly 'tinkering with our identity'.
The new crest is a clean and sharp design. I like it and it is much better than the former. Let's not even think of changing it for the next number of decades. The club did a great PR job with it and well done. However it is only a crest and let's move on. I envisage that soon we will be liking our a new kit and it is good that we are able to manage the basics. Let's hope that this is followed by the training ground, good scouting, youth players coming through, etc. However, I hope that next season onwards, we will be equally enthusiastic about about the players, the way we play and our performances on the pitch. After all, that is our soul.
I would have liked to keep elements of the last crest, the shield with blue and white hoops looked decent, just ditch the silver sideburns and the crown and it would have been great. The new design isn't really new though is it? I wonder how much we paid the graphic designers to come up with a badge that looks the same as one we've already had. We should have let Blue Peter have a crest design competition and be made to stick with the crayon dawb that won. "And Billy aged six from Acton has drawn a lovely picture of a house with lovely blue and white hoops" Yay, crayon house!
Agree entirely that the shield with the hoops would have looked good without all the crap around it. Historically, QPR had a shield. The circular crest is relatively recent.
Historically for many years we didn't have a badge on the shirt at all, which is rather cool. Look at pictures of the 67 League Cup Final.
I like it, even its a bit dull-ish but its like us as a club. Hope we keep it for the next fifty yrs at least. Changing the crest after every ten years is ridicolous.
Yes, branding wasn't much of a feature in those days. A QPR scarf was just blue and white stripes without more. You could wear it to any ground in the country that played in blue and white!
