Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe 2019

Perhaps Sottass' Prix Neil time was a fluke although it was run in a faster time than the Foy or the 9 runner Vermeille run on the same day over the same course and distance. Perhaps the Prix Neil was run at a dawdle and doesn't truly stay 12 Furlongs but its dam sire is Galileo which is usually...

Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe 2019

Re stamina, Fabre probably reacted to being beaten comfortably by Sottsass, who was a previous, relative unknown, but the overall time of the race would suggest differently. I'm not convinced that Enable is the Superstar that the betting would suggest and would have supported Treve against her...

Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe 2019

In terms of potential ability, Sottsass' Prix Jockey club was also faster than Treve's Diane on ground described as similar. I know pace of race, true state of ground and other considerations can apply but even still....

Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe 2019

I thought that Sottsass' prix neil was the fastest of the trials and a faster overall time than last year's Arc !

King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes - Ascot 29th July 2017

During his 3 yr old campaign,Gosden said that he expected Jack Hobbs to improve considerably with age. He injured his pelvis during his seasonal debut race as a Four year old and his under Four length defeat to Almanzor was also a comeback run. He then won at Meyden, the first time he had not...

Prix de l'€™Arc de Triomphe, 6th October 2013

Deepest Apologies. My research into past winners was flawed. I claimed that Corrida in 1936 was the last horse to win the Arc after being previously beaten in it. It actually happened in 3 successive years later with All Along-1983, Sagace-1984 and Rainbow Quest-1985. All were beaten previously...

Prix de l'€™Arc de Triomphe, 6th October 2013

Treve is out of a 6 furlong Dam & question marks were also being raised about her staying until she won the Vermeille. It's all guesswork until it's tried but, like Treve, he seemed to handle 10.5 Furlongs well enough. I feel that there are question marks against everything in the Arc field thus...

Prix de l'€™Arc de Triomphe, 6th October 2013

Hi Ron. I think it's very difficult to rule your above mentions in or out at this stage. Sure, the Neil time was very slightly slower than the Vermaille but they will meet Treve on 5 lbs better terms in the Arc. Ground & draw will be all important, together with who actually turns up, so I agree...

Prix de l'€™Arc de Triomphe, 6th October 2013

The Fugue was trading at 40/1 on Betfair today. She's no mug on good ground. Fair chance of Softish ground but Old Adage about weather predictions in these parts; Don't bet on it.

Prix de l'€™Arc de Triomphe, 6th October 2013

Noticed Charlton was quoted as saying that the likely G/S ground would suit Al Kazeem in the Arc. I would have thought it brave to call the ground, even 48 hrs before the race ! Considering the Trial times, I suspect the drying ground was quite holding & sticky by racetime & could be very...

Prix de l'€™Arc de Triomphe, 6th October 2013

Sorry Ron. Badly phrased but don't know how to 'cut & paste' my earlier remarks & was trying to make the point that the trials worked out as predicted. Made the point that could get soft ground for the trials, Flintshire wouldn't act on it & would get some AP value on him as a result. I'm not...

Prix de l'€™Arc de Triomphe, 6th October 2013

Been grabbing lots of 17 & 19 on Betfair re Flintshire this afternoon after laying him for the Neil. As I said before, he should have been nearer 500/1 for the Arc based on his only previous Soft ground run & will be a completely different proposition with a low draw if the ground is Good on Arc...

Les << Arc Trials >> Longchamp, 15th September

As predicted earlier, Huge over reaction on Betfair to Flintshire's run on Soft. Been taking/topping up at 17 & 19 this afternoon in hope of Good ground in 3 weeks.
