I never said anyone said he was right to do it. I said they were offering mitigation, making it a stupid, but less stupid thing to do than it was.

If you're frustrated and snap, you actually snap, you don't do something half arsed like that. If he'd snapped it would have been a much bigger incident as he would have been trying to actually hurt Lascelles, and then there'd have been a full on brawl. What he did was an intimadatory act, a threat that he'll do something if Lascelles keeps going, it's not a "snapped" act. To do that you're still exercising control, if you're still exercising control then it's a conscious decision not an instinctive one, so then the only explanation is stupidity.

He did snap. For the third time, Lascelles poked his head into Mbokani's face, and Mbokani snapped by lunging forward to butt his head. If someone came up to me on the pitch in a heated situation like that, I either nut them or punch them, but neither of those is any more or less calculated than the other.

If you snap then your instinct is to lash out trying to hurt them as much as you possibly can. If that's Mbokani doing that then god help him if anyone ever starts an actual fight with him because there's primary school kids who could put more force into a head butt than that.

Really not sure why this conversation is still going.

So you're saying every single player who has been sent off for a headbutt consciously stood there and thought to themselves "I'm over this game, I'm going to get myself sent off"?

It's still going on because you don't seem to understand there's a difference between the mental state of someone who's lost control in a fit of anger, and someone who after having someone be aggressive with them is still showing restraint but their ego won't let them walk away without first trying to make the person feel intimidated by acting the hard guy with them even though they know it'll be a red card. The first can happen to anyone if the right buttons are pressed, the second only to people who are a bit of a dick.

I'm saying every player who got sent off for a headbutt that timid was a ****ing idiot for consciously trying to act the hard man to intimidate the other person instead of walking away, where as say Zidane on Materazzi (despite piss poor placement) looked like he'd genuinely lost it the way he went into it.

<laugh> At least you're still in control of your frontal lobe. People can have levels of rage as they learn to control it (often through imposed discipline - like a football referee); some don't learn and snapping can be ugly and unrestrained. You are far closer to the truth, good to see you in control. <ok>

He snapped Rich. The end.

He was frustrated probably by the lack of chances created for him by his team mates and the heavy challenge by Lascelles.

I agree with Sydney - both players should have been shown the red card as both moved heads towards each other.

I think the issue with Mbokani is that he's our best striker. He's not really a goal threat, and he evidently has that daft temperament issue that seems so common in footballers of African descent, yet he's still our best striker because he works hard and puts himself about. Which says a lot.

The problem is, yet again we didn't address the striker situation. We got a cheap loan in and hoped that Hernandez would make the step up. After that our next striker is the one who couldn't get a game for us in the Championship.

And this is why we need to be realistic with our expectations. Our squad is incredibly bare, and our striking options are worse than ever.

FFS you're a mod and post racist bollocks like that.

As I said, real world it's the correct thing to do if you think it will put the other person off escalating it, on a football pitch it's not because you're taking a guaranteed punishment now to avoid maybe getting the same punishment later.

I completely disagree, anyone thats played football or rugby at a decent level will know how easy it is to get frustrated and do something stupid.

There's been plenty of times when I've pushed someone after a coming together or after words have been exchanged. With a calm head I know its a stupid thing to do and I'll get booked but when you snap you don't think about that. You also know pushing someone isn't going to hurt them and that you're not trying to hurt them but you do it anyway without thinking. If I was exercising any form of control I wouldn't do it in the first place.

I disagree with the notion that if you snap you are out to hurt someone, its just not true, sometimes its as simple as doing something against your better judgement, however small or unnecessary it is.

That is well out of order, shame on you.

The tackle It's self was calculated and erratic and been in front of it deserved a yellow, then the confrontation deserved a yellow. The number 6 should of walked and he was only mad because Robertson and pushed him over the hoardings and made him look like an idiot. There was a tackle on Diamonde in the first half which resembled karate and idiot Atwell waved play on. Pillock!

Wow.

Care to give us an extensive list of these African footballers who display this daft temperament?

Personally, I would think its a "Footballer" thing rather than an "African" thing.

Oh and If Barmby got sent off for every time he retaliated he would have been suspended every month!

Oh come on. All the most hilarious clips of footballers doing daft things are by players from African nations. Andre Bikey pushing a physio over who was treating his teammate. Mulumbu at West Ham picking up the ball and volleying it out of his hands at an opposing player because his team was losing. Sagbo doing an Mbokani. Mbokani doing a Sagbo.

It's just cultural. South American footballers dive and cheat, British players play direct and go forward in favour of keeping the ball, are they unacceptable things to say too?

Which African country is Zidane from?
