It's not a matter of differing opinions though, is it? Anyone can have a different political view to me (almost everyone on here does), or like different music, or support a different football team, but racism (or sexism, or homophobia) is just plain wrong in my eyes, not to mention illogical. I'm genuinely struggling to think of instances that might require some kind of judgment call as to whether they are racist or not. I suppose your great-aunt is an example, but to me that is clear cut. It is racism, but a relatively mild example, and, if the doctor was unaware, a victimless one.
Let's agree to disagree. Victimless. Nobody was hurt. Only great-auntie L was afraid - but she's got pity from you and Stan, so that's a comfort, I'm sure . Nobody was discriminated against in a way that disadvantaged them. Nothing to see here. PS I note from your strapline that you discriminate against all things Tory which, of course, is a political choice, so that's OK. But presumably anything Tory is deserving of your ire, hatred and vitriol without exception? Or have I got that wrong?
The strapline is not my own, Uber, it's a Nye Bevan quote. A little extreme I suppose, but I rather like it. Not everything Tory is deserving of hatred I guess, but again I'm struggling to think of examples.
If the EU fails then that means what? Nothing IMO to the UK My worry is exactly how strong is the UK on it's own? There's my focus because the people of the UK cannot at any point be called united It will require a massive shift of culture change IMO You will get your wish to have your own decision making but the last count was 52/48 there within lies a massive obstacle just for a start
Well that's how things go it doesn't matter if it was 60 - 40 or 80 - 20 or even 99 -1 there will always be some that don't like it. The UK will be fine on it's own. We won't need to prop up Europe now. However I still want to have good links with Europe. I want foreign students to come and study here and I also want all the Europeans to be able to stay here or work here if they want.
So farewell then Fidel Castro. A giant figure of the Twentieth Century, and one, along with Kennedy and Khrushchev, nearly got me killed at the age of one. Plenty of things to admire and detest about him, a romantic and ruthless figure in one. The last relic of the Cold War - well, nearly, Putin would be that. A benevolent (ish) socialist dictator, and the demonstration of why democracy is vital for what it prevents rather than what it provides. BBC use the occasion to have an irritating chat with Ken Livingstone, who manages not to mention Hitler.
One of the lead EU negotiators for Brexit has favoured an 'opt in' EU citizenship for individual British citizens wishing to remain part of the EU. A fee may be involved. They are working on the proposals and will discuss in the EU Parliament before the end of the year. But all 27 countries would need to support it, and I suspect some would reject without some kind of reciprocal agreement for their citizens. If it works, brilliant, I'm in. Of course, the more rabid anti Europeans will denounce it as divisive and creating two tier citizenships. That of course implies that there are advantages to being in the EU which they would then deny, morons. They won't be happy until we all look and think like patriots from Hartlepool. Also there is a chance that the Supreme Court will refer the appeal on Parliament having a say on Brexit terms to the European courts. Absolutely outstanding.
sb don't embarrass yourself in believing this rubbish. They cannot even sort out 600 visa at the moment how are they going to sort out 17M! it's a delusional belief that this can actually happen. Just imagine people wanting to be part of the EU and get special privilges? The UK would then say in that case you will have to pay more taxes here. It will never happen, never. You would be better off saying there could be another count as some people have changed their minds. . I listened to a senior Tory figure yesterday who said they want this done asap because it's taking too long.
Just a few frustrated and petulant EU Cleggy-liberals that want to find a way to give Mrs May a kicking. And now the premier of mighty Malta is warning that Brussels will give the UK a bashing. Meanwhile, the economy minister of Bavaria, engine room of German automobile manufacturing, is warning Mrs Merkel that the UK is a vital trading partner and unless comprehensive agreements are put in place, Brexit will create "a high risk to the German economy." I know who I'd listen to...
It's all about money Goldhawk. It always has been. Let all sides say what they want but at the end of the day it will be the money that wins. People keep sensationalizing a few quotes from some bloke in France or in Germany and England. Their words mean nothing. Just like that Kranky woman in Scotland, worthless rhetoric. Seriously as if what she says is important. . The people you need to listen to are the big (I mean big) companies and moneymen. The rest are just pawns.
On another note this did make me laugh. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...-challenge-retail-chain-iceland-over-name-use I can see their point.
I don't think it will happen either, I just like the idea, and if it did I'd mainly want it as I travel around Europe for work a lot and would prefer not to stand in the same lengthy queues as the Yanks and Chinese at immigration. Plus if the access to healthcare is maintained it will be handy if I am on the road when the inevitable cardiovascular event happens. I'd go for the same status with the US, as I have lost days of my life adding up the cumulative time I have spent in US border control queues. Does the UK require current citizens with dual nationality to pay more taxes than the rest of us? Do you not like the idea on principle? I think you may be right though about the future for the EU if Le Pen wins the French presidency. Many in the EU would like to give the Germans a bit of a kicking. The deal has to be signed by 27 sovereign parliaments (and regional ones too in some places), not just BMW. Anyway, as Ellers has pointed out, we are already buying fewer cars and the £ driven rise in import prices may damage their business further. Oh dear, how sad, never mind. The continued impotent fury of the Brextards even when they have got what they thought they wanted (Brexit means Brexit after all) would be funny if it wasn't so pathetic. Move on, start building the New Jerusalem on our litter strewn green belt, as we were promised.
Hammond just announced £122 billion extra borrowing in the next five years, half of which is directly attributable to Brexit, and that's before we even know what kind of exit deal we might get. Leaving the single market would make it much worse. ****ing madness. They didn't put that on the side of a bus did they?
What you mean the debt wasn't there and it wasn't going to get bigger? Brexit is a great excuse for borrowing. Read between the lines stroller.
Agree sb. I want close links with Europe and easy access to travel and work in each others countries. Never had a problem with that. I have said all along I just want to be governed by us and not some unelected bloke in Brussels.
