Interesting thoughts from Phil Neville, think he's spot on and it's comforting to hear:

"
What I've seen from the whole of the Tottenham team is that they've made naive decisions in the Champions League. That's what you do in Europe.

When we broke into the Manchester United team and played in Europe it took us two or three seasons to stop making mistakes.

You stop making mistakes because you get punished. We got punished severely in the first few seasons. This Tottenham team is being punished.

Positions you take in the Premier League don't get punished. Here they do."

Massively disappointed. The side never got going and Poch made some weird selections and weird decisions.

Heading into the Chelsea game at the worst possible time.

That is interesting. Firstly, when we're ahead or have no need to chase the game, please could we just SLOW IT DOWN AND KEEP THE BALL.

Yeah he's talking sense. He's right we are a top 4 team...these players don't think moving to an Arsenal, Chelsea is a step up. We need to realise that off the field and support the manager with his wishes.

Before anyone shouts 'knee-jerk reaction', but after 3 months of doubts left over from last season slowly percolating in my mind, tonight was the first time I found myself wondering about life after Pochettino. There, I've said it.

I was disappointed by the Dortmund tie last season, but I at least
understand what else was at stake. This time, winning the PL is not
currently at stake. We don't have to beat Chelsky at the weekend.

There are no CL KO stage games for ages.
If you go into the Europa KO stages, you have condemned yourself to
an extra 2 games to be played near the business end of the PL season.

All this is known on paper, well before the event.
But the team for today was chosen regardless. That is my big concern.

It's tough to know what direction he gets from DL. If his primary target is to get back in the CL, the today's selections make a degree of sense. Well sort of.

If he put that team out to win, then that is worrying. Monaco are a much better team than we gave them credit for.

However, I don't think he deserves anything but our support. I'll go against CSKA. We're Spurs. It isn't going to be easy.

It was obvious at HT that we needed to do something about the defence as we were being torn apart, particularly down Trippiers side. Yet nothing was changed and we conceded 2 goals in the 8 minutes after the start of the 2nd half.
Pochettino waits too long to change what is glaringly obvious to us watching and in the CL it has cost us dearly.
I keep going on about this but it is the whole point of being a football fan. Losing is not the issue but failing to entertain is a big issue. And, apart from the Man City game, the Stoke game and the Boro game we have not been particularly entertaining this season.
We are playing safe boring football on the whole and this has led to teams feeling confident playing us. We appear panicked when teams get in our faces and our composure and passing go to ****. We are not spontaneous or adventurous and as a result we have taken 2 steps backwards this season.

I agree we should continue supporting MP as the manager. He's also on a learning curve and in the great scheme of things, he's fantastic for Spurs.

As long as he's learning, I'm happy. His tactics at the Emirates ManCity were spot on. It's his first season in the CL, and playing at Wembley has had an adverse effect.

I was about to mention Man U in Europe I remember thinking SAF was very naive tactically but he learnt quite well later. He was also given TIME

Agree with all of this and despite an attritional level of injuries we're unbeaten in the league.

Oh and as for the final match at Wembley...me and my girls will still be going...it's Wembley, it's our last CL match for God knows how long and it's a chance to watch our beloved Tottenham...what would we do that beats that?
Tonight is a disappointment...hopefully the team and management team learn the lessons needed but we are always Tottenham til we die so personally I can't wait to go see the match and cheer them on.

I think I saw Man U put in a poor performance in the very stadium we just watched.

You are only saying that because you think you have escaped the
Wicker Man for this season.

Different times though. English teams had been out of Europe for a while. The PL wasn't awash with cash and most of the players were therefore from the British Isles. It was only later that more savvy overseas players were brought in who could play the same way as the Italians and Spanish, who had come to dominate the club game in Europe.

Now we have so many advantages. None of the teams in the group stages should cause problems to English clubs except the accepted giants of European football.

Reactions: Citizen Kane
Listening to Poch's post-match eulogy and it confirms in my mind that he'd thrown the towel in before kick off today. Spent most of the interview focusing on missed opportunities in the 2 home games and how costly they were - i.e. they cost us the tournament. I think he just used this game to continue bringing Kane, Alli and Dembele up to speed, as well as giving Winks the big thumbs up after his performance at the weekend, and the rest of the team he just picked at random out of a hat.

Which gives me hope for the weekend. We will be ready for that.

I am just left hoping that the MP post-match comments are not about how well we played and were unlucky. There is a need for a large dose of honesty and realism!
