I still go home to Ryhope every now and again for a few beers..The Top House and The Foresters still proper drinking bars and I would imagine would be slightly intimidating for strangers drinking there for the first time, although in reality a lot of the punters are the salt of the earth..

Is the Guide Post still open at the bottom then? Plus the Workies club used to be cheap as owt. I played snooker as well and was it called the Farmers in Ryhope. Been in there a couple of times.

A young couple took the pub on near us in Bowland bridge ( Thwaites i think ) with in 6 months they were about £35,000 in the red and they found they were buying their bitter for £120 : 00 a barrel and they could buy it on the open market for £70 :00 a barrel when they saw the Rep he told them to charge £4 a pint anyway in the end they did a moonlight flit and lost all their money can't understand why the breweries cripple their own tenants.

They don't really have pubs over here.

Plenty in the country but they're more like a Saharan watering hole than anything you'd compare to an English pub.

I got barred from a mates's "English pub" at the weekend as four ****s on a stag do were pouring ketchup on tampons and flinging them about the place and giggling when people reached with disgust.

Picked a handful of them up and shoved them straight into the ****s drinks. Silly ****s all got up and made a row of it with all four of them threatening me and squaring up until I poked one of them in the eye and throttled another one up against a wall. At that point they waited for the bouncers to come before they started gobbing off again.

Trouble is I only went out for a quiet lunch with my wife. Turned around and she'd stormed off. Been sleeping in the spare room since.

You can take the lad out of Sunderland/the North East, but he'll not lose his principles. Good lad, they sound like a bunch of twats. She'll come round......eventually.

Me dad gans on about the good 'old' days when they had a piano player/singer in pubs, he liked Hylton castle he would be driven there and back in a reliant regal at 50 mph by my uncle and they were both pissed coming back ! (1960's/70's them days you could get away with it) one day he took a corner a tad too fast and they wound up in a ditch, but them cars were easy to lift thankfully. My dad also fell down stairs one night he was ok though. He met the famous boxer jack casey one night and bumped into Bobby Thompson in a bog another !. He said Germany is the best for boozers.
