Leeds Utd v Newcastle Utd

Good Morning Everyone,

The Toon are in town!

Lock up your Newcastle Brown (Shaks)

Watch out for the Geordies!

Newcastle are coming!

This is the one that we have all been waiting for, the arrival of Newcastle Utd to Elland Road.

Monk will give a late fitness test to O'Kane following picking up a groin strain against Norwich a week and a half ago. Similarly, Dallas has returned to training, but having been absent since the last International break, Monk is unlikely to start with him.

Leeds only other absentee is Liam Bridcutt, who is still three weeks away from returning to the first team.

It will be interesting to see what Garry Monk does. Perhaps he will switch Ayling to centre back, therefor making space for Berardi (and playing five at the back) with Phillips just in front of them.

Thoughts?

Jonjo Shelvey had been charged with an ‘Aggravated Breach’ of misconduct and may miss the Leeds game. He has until close of play today to appeal.

Jonjo Shelvey had been charged with an ‘Aggravated Breach’ of misconduct and may miss the Leeds game. He has until close of play today to appeal.

The shock especially felt because it was alleged to have happened in a match two months earlier.

The fact that the claims were of a racial/racist nature only added to the situation.

It quickly became apparent that the reason for the delay in the charge being made, was due to efforts behind the scenes to fight the charge before it was made public.

The media confirming that Wolves had reported straight after the match on Saturday 17 September that the alleged comment(s) had been made.

Going on previous similar cases, it looks all but certain that if Jonjo Shelvey is found guilty of the charge, the punishment would be a minimum of a ban covering at least five matches.

Assuming any hearing/decision would happen by the end of this week (Friday 18 November) it would mean if found guilty, Jonjo Shelvey missing a minimum of Leeds away, Blackburn home, Hull away (League Cup), Forest away, Birmingham home – with the following (sixth) match being Wigan away on Wednesday 14 December.

Jonjo Shelvey was given eight days to respond to the charge and now with only 24 hours remaining, there has still been no further news.

I have to say that I fear the worst, as usually in these cases if the player is going to fight the charge you normally find that very quickly there is a response saying that the claims will be contested and the player strongly refutes any wrongdoing etc etc and the club is 100% behind him.

My strong feeling, and I very much hope that I am wrong, is that tonight/tomorrow we will see a statement accepting the charge and any subsequent punishment, with comments from Jonjo Shelvey apologising/explaining etc.

The Official FA Statement on Tuesday 8 November:

Jonjo Shelvey has been charged for misconduct in relation to Newcastle United’s game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday 17 September 2016.

It is alleged that in or around the 87th minute of the fixture, he used abusive and/or insulting words towards an opponent.

It is further alleged that this breach of Rule E3(1) is an “Aggravated Breach” as defined in Rule E3(2), as it included reference to ethnic origin and/or race and/or nationality.

The player has until 16 November 2016 to respond to the charge.’

Could also be an intent late appeal, many solicitors do this to gain time, or, it could be Toon want him playing this Saturday if not heard before hand; which is doubtfull if he contests.

Could be like you said Ell, he's thought long and hard about it and may admit the charge.

I don't follow Newcastle, is Jonjo vital to their team?

Will be a good game potentially and pleased for Gary Speeds family hope they are present as he loved Leeds and Newcastle. The supporters will get right behind this.

As for the match I hope we turn up and give them a good game. Draw would be good but a win would make people really have a think about us.

Good morning all.As we all know this games, going to be tough realy tough, this will show how much our team has progressed,as Newcastle have the funds & players to now hold their own in the premier league, hate to say it but can't see us winning this one,but my god what a result it would be if we did.CMON YOU WHITES.:emoticon-0137-clapp

He'll be a big miss if he is out - he's been on fire recently, incredible passing and controls everything from midfield.

I would have had us to win this comfortably, but if Shelvey's out, I'd say it will be a very close game, we don't have a direct "playmaker" replacement for Shelvey, Rafa could go with Diame who has been a bit cack so far, or Colback or Hayden who are both good, but much more defensive than Shelvey.

On the more positive note for us though, Mitro's absolutely smashing it at the moment, and should cause you problems.

Worried about this game because i feel like we'all lose it. Still I was same as ristac in that I was looking at 2 points from Norwich and Newcastle and we'be bettered that.

I'm really hoping our players are properly pumped up for this game (as they should be) and we'll continue with our form. Get something from this and I think top 6 could actually become a reasonable target.

Morning all. Biggest game of the season for both clubs. Our biggest crowd for an age. Hopefully we'll have everyone except Bridcutt fit. Likely to be a defining game in our season. Don't think we'll win. But if we can get a good draw, I'll be happy with that.

I felt 2 points from the two games and we are really top 6 contenders. As long as we don't get hammered, a point and it would take a brave person to bet against us being top 6 a defeat and it is still on. Not too many teams will take more than three points from their games with Norwich and Newcastle

A lose and it can just be seen as a good run of form before this game. Something from this game means we start showing consistency imo.

All our best players are either coming back after 2 International games and Wood travelling around the world after 180 mins, or they are injured so will have to hope the kids step up but a big ask
