It seems that a few posters who match a certain profile have adhered to a strange phenomenon that sees many British men emigrate out to Thailand once they reach a certain age.

Why do you think this is ? I have researched the issue and I have added a poll which contains what I hear are the three most common reasons.

Does the issue of a British man of such an age moving to Thailand still hold the same stigma ? Often when these types declare that they are off out to Thailand, there are winks and nudges had by many at the expense of the soon to be expat, and if your hearing is acute enough you may hear the word 'buggery'; whispered more than once.

Can anyone shed some light on why Thailand is so popular for certain sorts ?

Tbh if I was retired and I could afford to I would. Beautiful country. I'd go up and buy a place in the northern areas though, can't stand Bangkok tbh.

I hear it is easy on the eye but so are many other parts of the world ,treble

For what possible reason could Thailand be such a popular destination ?

It offers beautiful rural, mountain areas coupled with lots of ancient history, culture, as well as the more cosmopolitan coastal and island retreats. And it's ****ing cheap. Food my opinion is mixed, not sure I'm a fan tbh, but it's still good enough for me to be happy. Oh, and did I say it's cheap!

BTW it's not necessarily my first choice. I would perhaps choose something a little closer to home. The mediterranean, maybe Cyprus or one of the other Greek islands. But Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia might be a possibility. I'm still mulling it over.

Love the way that Saints/HAIG has written this thread to try and bait Ginger, and Treble is just talking about how beautiful Thailand is <laugh>

I'm not trying to bait anyone mate. I'm just looking for answers

If in doubt choose Jamaica - some of the best scenery in the world mate.

I must admit, every 'older' male that goes to Thailand I know goes for one reason, sex.

My mates dad (in his 70's) goes about 3 times a year on his own purely for sex.

When I went with the Mrs on holiday it's hilarious, on the plane you can play 'spot the pervert' - fairly easy though as it's usually half the passengers. But the real ones that stick out are the lone 50+ year olds with their head down reading The Sun.

It's common knowledge that it's a perverts paradise.
