Although I agree that purely in a football sense we won't miss Jose it will be a sad day when he goes.

He will be the last to go from our league 1 team and although it shows our progress I can't help but feel gutted by it.

We all know that sentiment has little place in football these days with the turnover of players etc. But I love the emotional side of football,
and as well as we do now I don't think I will ever feel that connection again that i had with the team from the first 3 seasons of the Liebherr era.

Infact, I'd even go as far as saying that even including Strachans cup final team and the record finishes of the last 2 years... The 2 promotion seasons are without doubt my favourite seasons in my life as a Saints fan.

Hopefully a night in Sweden next Spring will change my mind :)

The Championship season on the way back up was perhaps my favourite as a Saints fan. I got over to more games than I usually would on average and we won every single time I went over. We went into the Championship as favourites or near favourites to be relegated and were so close to winning it altogether. I remember the game at home to Boro who had started the season very well and were barely conceding any goals but we beat them 3-0 with Do Prado almost scoring at hat-trick at our end. Brilliant times.

The 26 pass goal....... :1980_boogie_down: I still have it on my phone now

Being a 13/14 year old season ticket holder at The Dell in the 83/84 season was pretty special.

I am generally something of a pessimist but I thought we'd win the Championship that year. That Leeds game just confirmed it.
Of course, being the pessimist I thought we would somehow blow it at the end. I didn't start celebrating until we were 3 up against Coventry.

I was not that fussed about letting him go pre-season, other than the timing. We didn't have a replacement and there were too many balls in the air.

If he leaves in January or after the season, that's fine.

You, me and everyone st St. Mary's.... it just seemed that until the third goal we were all still thinking we'd blow it!!

Yes that was a special season. Sadly I was neither a ST holder (still youngish family demanding money with menaces and living in the NW) nor was I 13/14! That defence with Watson and Wright in the middle and Shilton in goal looked impregnable. Danny Wallace's goal of the season against Liverpool should be googled by anyone not fortunate enough to see it. It was amazing to have fans of other teams talking about my team. Proud days. Such a pity we didn't pick up one of those trophies. Time to mention Adrian ...? No. Thinking of your blood pressure, FLT.

We can talk of lamenting the loss of Fonte et al (even Twatbeard) as losing touch with the promotion teams, but like those old enough to wax lyrical about the Lawrie teams, everyone who supported the team through those great seasons will keep the memory alive. There will be young teenage fans who watched us get promoted in 2011 and 2012 who will be boring their kids to death in 30 years time with tales of this "glorious past". Fonte will always be part of that, and hopefully his legacy will be that he will have helped in the building of an era where we do pick up a trophy or three.

For the youngsters of today they will have their heros of tomorrow. Just like we did back in the day. That surely though is what football is about

Exactly, Beddy. Boring your grandchildren with tales of past glories is the prerogative of the elderly!

Definitely need to get Romeu and McQueen to sign new contracts. I am disappointed in Fonte daring to hint that he might not wish to stay here until he is taken away in a box. Hard to regain that ground. Like a lover daring to say you might not be quite the beauty at forty that you were at twenty....not all the grovelling in the world can erase that from the memory....so beware, ladso_O
Luckily, Mrs No7 is like a fine wine, and is more delicious at 52 than she ever was at 20 :)

(She might read this, though I'm in trouble putting in her real age and now you all know I'm a toy boy :) )
