Funny thing is, when they trim back the bullshit, abuse and attempts to be adversarial and get down to discussing, they tend to have pretty much the same views as me on most of the issues.

This thread would be loads better if they'd just stop seeing it as "them" and "us" and discussing the issues rather then the personalities. I think it's a southern thing.

Or it could be a "they think your an argumentative cock" thing...just saying like.

No definitely a northern trait. Everybody I've ever met from "up north" has always had to have the last word. I always considered that this was because traditionally the north had the big manufacturing bases and the working man will always argue with his fellow worker (in a constructive way, without coming to blows!!).

The main purpose of these boards is discussion and exchanging opinions. People can draw their own conclusions on anyone that misses that simple point and just goes for childish personal comments rather than commenting on the EU...just saying like. :emoticon-0105-wink:

Possibly true, but it does tend to be a discussion, not just some exchange of personal comments.

I have to say I don't get this obsession with sources. It's a internet football forum ffs. If you are in the pub with your mates and someone makes a comment that you don't agree with, does that person have to provide sources or do you argue it for 5 mins, get another round in and agree to disagree.
Next we will be insisting that it's correctly referenced using Harvard referencing.
Where people are posting opinions that is fine. When people are claiming to be posting facts I think they need to be challenged. It's so easy to doctor stuff these days and completely made up 'facts' are all over the net (eg the claim the Trump said he would run as a Republican because he though the party members were stupid).

That's fair enough, as long as it is the opinions posted, and not some twisted version based on assumptions and preconceptions, which seems to be a trait on here, as does this desire to "win" rather than discuss.

Sorry, but if this is the type of conversation you want (with an endless supply of data to back it up), is a football forum the correct place for it. I'm sure there are other forums where this type of posting is more appropriate.
Half the time it's just seems to be a pissing contest, with some trying to outdo each other as the order of the day.

Get you bitch
But seriously though ... was simply a joke mate...apologies if it was out of place.

If I was being serious I would say that this debate is non existent as there is too much antagonism on all sides.
Me and you had a difference of opinion about Le Pen (if it wasn't you then apologies) I thought it was civil and we ended by agreeing to disagree as neither were convincing the other. Didn't think it got ****ty or personal (This is only my view ... yours may be different).
Some others I have disagreed with have simply been personally rude and ****th so in one case I stopped responding and in the other I responded in kind until it stopped.
Others are on a WUM marathon and enjoy lobbing in their grenades and watching the ensuing carnage.
Imo the tone of the debate will not change so I am expecting another 600 pages of this.

I am very happy to have a debate where people argue about opinions and even on this thread that happens sometimes. I would actually prefer people not to try to back things up with facts as I can find those elsewhere. But when rubbish is posted as factual I can't help pointing it out. And I absolutely hate the use of biased terms such as 'crooked' Hilary.

I cannot speak for all, but I personally use this forum as a bit of light relief from the daily grind. I try not to take it too seriously (although Pete did manage to ruffle my feathers) and my general contributions reflect that. All this "provide sources" bollocks does my head in, but that's just my view.
I get more wound up by the fact that my iPad thinks it knows how to spell better than wot I does, rather than the content of the thread.
