Marine Le Pen and the far right in Germany will rally plenty of supporters to get into Government to try and stop the huge amounts of largely unchecked immigration into France and Germany. Expect wholesale changes to both governments in the next couple of years.

I think the EU may well fall apart in a few years, and it'll only be the pot-less Greeks and Spanish left wondering where everybody went !

Donald Trump’s understanding and expertise over trade will be good for post-Brexit Britain and bad for the EU, a senior republican commentator has said.

Mr Trump has made clear he wishes to sustain and improve the special relationship with Britain as it exits the EU.

Charlie Wolf, a British-based Republican commentator and radio host, also believes the EU will face an uphill battle with President-elect Trump.

Speaking to Sky News he said: “This is part of the good news [Trump’s relationship with the UK].

“People were all saying the world is going to fall apart. It is not. This is a guy who understands trade and depends on trade.

He continued: “His election will also be bad for Europe as he is not really as interested in the Europeans because they do not think like he thinks.

“We [the UK] are more of a capitalist, free market kind of people that Donald likes and we will have a deal pretty soon.”

When asked about Barack Obama’s infamous warning that Brexit would send Britain to the back of the queue in regards to a trade deal, Stacy Hilliard, the chair of American Voices International, dismissed such fears.

She said: “I think Donald Trump will put the UK at the front of the queue and it is a real opportunity for the UK to seize upon.

“This is a real opportunity and people need to start looking at Brexit as an opportunity and also a Trump presidency as an opportunity.”

Following Mr Trump’s shock election triumph Theresa May moved to congratulate him and express her eagerness to work with him in the future.

She said: “I would like to congratulate Donald Trump on being elected the next president of the United States, following a hard-fought campaign.

“Britain and the United States have an enduring and special relationship based on the values of freedom, democracy and enterprise. We are, and will remain, strong and close partners on trade, security and defence.

“I look forward to working with president-elect Donald Trump, building on these ties to ensure the security and prosperity of our nations in the years ahead.”

No 10 announced Mrs May had also written a personal letter of congratulations to the President-elect.

Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson also sent his best wishes to America’s next leader saying: I believe passionately in the importance of the UK-US relationship and am confident we can take it forward together.”

In his victory speech in New York City, Mr Trump, 70, issued a call for unity across America. He said: “Now it’s time for America to bind the wounds of division. To all Republicans and Democrats and independents across this nation, I say it is time for us to come together as one united people.”

In her concession speech, Hillary Clinton also called for calm and for the country to unite behind its new president.

She said: “We must accept this result and then look to the future. Donald Trump is going to be our president. We owe him an open mind and the chance to lead.”

The majority of Americans are not idiots. He's sexist, their racist, they're homophobic, everyone's ageist should not be the instant position of those who do not agree with a election / referendum vote.

Trump, Brexit and even after Corbyns two leadership wins. People are convincing themselves that they're 100% correct, the other side are 100% incorrect, and voting for the other is a declaration of bigotry or intolerance.or being morons and idiots.

    Perhaps people should look deeper.

Disagree on them not being idiots, but agreed on the bold bit. People are bringing up all of Trump's (numerous) negatives at the expense of ignoring many of Hillary's. My problem is that I believe the vast majority of Trump's voters are the simpletons who agree about wanting to get rid of Muslims, stop immigration, etc. I think it's not too dissimilar to the fact that a lot of Brexit voters were voting to stop immigration and all that crap.

And I have no idea why Red Robin is liking your post, seeing as he seems to be fully pro-Trump. This is my issue, Trump has barely mentioned any proper policies around all of the insulting rubbish he's said and done, and I'm willing to bet that the vast majority of his voters are completely unaware, so how are they justifying voting for him through all of the **** he's spouted? I ask this both as proof to back up my point, but also as a genuine question as I don't pretend to be an expert on the election, I just see enough of what goes on.

EDIT: I've had a pretty obvious afterthought; that people are fed up with the status quo and are voting that way to make a statement, which is admirable and understandable. But I still stand by the point, is that justifiable through all of the crap that Trump has committed to?

    Because of this bit-

The majority of Americans are not idiots. He's sexist, their racist, they're homophobic, everyone's ageist should not be the instant position of those who do not agree with a election / referendum vote.

At the core of Trumps campaign is his background as a businessman. Mr Trump wants to move away from globalisation towards protectionism. Pro American industry views would obviously be populist.

Which in a way is surely what the EU have been doing, at the dismay of Nigel Farage?

And I'm unsure if you are a supporter or simply stating the facts, but is that a worthwhile positive over having a leader who wanted to ban Muslims entering the country, build a wall to Mexico, supported further torture techniques, admitted sexually assaulting a woman, opposes homosexual marriage, mocked a disabled reporter... the list goes on, as I'm sure you're aware. This is more aimed towards RR.

In a weird way, I support Morrissey, who said that Brexit was a brilliant thing for Britain. Not because of the racist and xenophobic connotations of the vote, but because it was finally a big **** you to the politicians who for once weren't able to do what they wanted. I see a similar thing in this vote, though with a much higher level of hatred it pains me to say.

Which in a way is surely what the EU have been doing, at the dismay of Nigel Farage? UK Government cannot/could not look towards protectionism while being a EU member. Mr Farage but also left wingers favour Britain being able to create its own trade policies free from EU regulation. It is a position of neither left or right.

And I'm unsure if you are a supporter ... The most right wing party I have ever voted for is Tony Blair's New Labour. Mr Trumps views on the environment would mean no support from myself, but political norms in one country do not apply to all. The Americans have made their vote. Trump clearly won. Status quos are being broken. Brexit, Trump ..This could be a era of new politics globally.

Understand and learn has to better than maligning millions upon millions because they hold differing views.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has already invited him to come to Canada to discuss mutual points of interest including an oil pipeline that has been doing the legal rounds for years. Considering we have swept the broom closet of the old guard, as well as our southern cousins, perhaps the rest of the world will follow in this changing world where the populace are fed up with being fed constant rubbish by their elected leaders.

Apparently Clinton polled more votes per head than Trump.

Seems like their system is just as strange as ours - UKIP got 25% of the vote last time around here yet only 1 MP.

Wonder what the Scottish nazi share of the vote per head is?!!!!

Democracy can be tailored to achieve a specific outcome.

Donald Trump has invited Theresa May to visit him "as soon as possible" to discuss how they will build upon the "very important and very special" relationship between the two nations.

In a statement from Downing Street, the prime minister "highlighted her wish to strengthen bilateral trade and investment with the US as we leave the EU. But she said that our relationship is so much more than that and our two countries have always stood together as close allies when it counts the most. President-elect Trump strongly agreed and added that the UK is a ‘very, very special place for me and for our country’."

It looks like the special relationship is back on track!

I wouldn't trust him any more than I would a cold email from Nigeria asking me to reply with my bank details so they could transfer £150k to me.
