This was by all accounts one hell of a team. They won the Third Division South by a record amount of points.
As a youngster I played against Ken Hollymans son, Denis, quite a few times. Stan Richards son, also Stan, and nephews Peter and Brian were also top local players.
Anyone have any stories about these champions?
 
Before my time (honestly!!<laugh>) but I can remember my dad always talking about Alf Sherwood and Ron Stitfall at the back for City.

They were a solid pairing through the post war years but I can't see Stitfall in that picture so perhaps he was a bit later?

Made his professional debut for Cardiff in October 1947 which was the season after the photo was taken.
 
Yes Spark, Stitfall was a little after these guys. He was full back when I started watching City.
Whiffle, at a guess I'd say yes, it was the same Hollyman that taught you. As a reenager he was a wonderful footballer, we all thought he'd turn pro but I can't remember what happened.
Billy Bakers son, Mike, still lives in Ely I believe.

That makes sense....If I remember correctly, he tried to introduce football on to the curriculum of a rugby only school (unsuccesfully)
