I think its a shame that some of the Leeds fans still cannot give Saints any credit about today's victory. Yes Leeds were poor but it was us who made them look it for a lot of the game. They were all warning us before the game about Snodgrass, Gradel and Howson and how when they play well Leeds play well, however our two full backs, who their fans were saying were crap, marked Snodgrass and Gradel out of the game. Howson couldn't get in the game because of Hammond and Cork's dominance and even had the humiliation of the Kelvin Davis dribbling round him. Let's be honest, Leeds are average without those three playing well and that is why we beat them so comfortably. Too many of our players were on top form today but the real test will be when we come up against a team like West Ham who I imagine will be very tough to break down.
Southampton were good, Leeds were poor, if Leeds had played like they showed they can in this division many times before it would not have been as easy as it was for Southampton. Yes you lot might still have won, I can take a defeat away from home any day of the week but not when it is such a poor showing by at least 9 of the Leeds players who never showed up today.
I understand but my point is that we kept quiet your three best players very quiet and without them you're not a great Championship team and we also exposed your weaknesses really badly.
That was also my assessment. Stopping the wings when we didn't have a target down the middle was the key to the game. The first two goals were pinpoint finishes that punished mistakes in the Leeds defence. They won't always go in the back of the net. Conversely, if Howson's volley had gone in and Paynter hadn't unfurled a banner saying "I'M GOING TO TRY AND BEND IT ROUND YOU WITH MY RIGHT FOOT", it could have been a more competitive game. Southampton deserved the win - defending well and taking chances - but Leeds were poor. When Snodgrass and Gradel were being squeezed out of the game, the rest of the midfield didn't seem to have any ideas.
To be honest I don't think you so much as kept them quiet as we didn't play or try to play through the midfield, it was long balls forward. Honestly, the attention you gave Snodgrass wasn't anything he doesn't usually handle with ease. He had an off day of immense proportions, was it due to Southampton keeping him quiet or him playing piss poor, more the latter I feel.
The Gradel on was no way penalty; looked like a dive to me on telly. The other one looked like a correct decision though.
Certainly wasnt a pen, a little annoying, nevertheless 3 points on the board as Nige said. Maybe we could have a decision similar to this go our way later in the season
Just seen it again on the FLS. He actually extends his arm to push the ball out of the way. It's a blatant hand ball, don't know how any can argue otherwise. No effort made to move it out of the way.
Enough fella. Log off, go home and come back if you beat us heavily at Elland Rd..... we've moved on.
Hell of a coincidence that the two times I've seen him at St Mary's that we didn't stop him playing, but he had an off day. Perhaps he's allergic to sea air. All we got from Simon 21 LUFC in the build up was that when you last came down, the best player outside the Prem was either injured, tired or just had an off day.... he's done it again. Come on give us a little credit. I see you are Northampton based. Will you be going to Elland Rd for the game? Could be a giggle if we shared a ride.
Hey I might do you will have to pm me your location. My mates are Man U, Liverpool and Fulham supporters, we have often travelled to Leeds games together, they have just sat very quietly as it was moi that obtained the tickets lol
I'm sure it's already been said but we'll sometimes get the rub of the green and today we didn't. It did hit his arm so some things might go against us and then some will go for us. We were already 3-0 up so who cares as it made no difference to the result and then hopefully when the decision does go in our favour it will make the difference for us and get a last gasp draw or victory. We were easily the better side yesterday, no question. Yes Leeds had a bad day at the office but we had a couple of regulars and fans favourites out too so the Leeds fans would do well to recognise that aswell as telling us who was missing and how lucky we were blah, blah, blah!
