Joke of a card that Newbury one and you do have to pontificate about whether or not they will be so keen to stage it next term. May I suggest a rain dance towards the end of October, next year, in Royal Berkshire if they do go ahead. Oddy, it would be so fitting if Mr Henderson’s Burbank won that heat as, of course, the forum’s favourite has in the past been employed as a ‘consultant’ to old girl Jilly re her racing 'bonkbusters'.
In this Isle there are 27 races of the morrow and just 1, I say 1, has attracted a double figure field (7.30 Chelmsford)! Makes you wonder why they bother. Or indeed how long they will continue to bother!
nothing wrong with small fields barney ....... Actinpieces 2 45 market rasen 8/1 -on the run behind ballybolley looked very fizzy and although a faller ran a race full of promise- ,said to myself to back this next time - well here it is .......
Rofl @ Barney. I'm sure the 2m7f chasers at Market Rasen would have been mad keen to have an amalgamation of meetings so they could run the 7f sprint at Chelmsford. Don't be so daft old chap. Sometimes these things happen. Don't let it upset one so much. Life goes on. Have a good day The Don. I'm not too far away from you there tomorrow but I am working and not racing sadly
This dry period is proving a right old pain for the NH tracks. Today saw a huge amount of NRs and field sizes in the next while will be badly diminished as trainers, rightly, don't want jumpers risking themselves on good/firm ground. My nearest track Down Royal must be praying the forecast rain comes tomorrow for their 2 day festival or there going to have desperate field sizes and, more importantly, a lack of the better horses they usually can attract here.
Off to see Mr Tyner in Kinsale Ste. Have a 3 yo in training with him, excited to see how he's going. Half brother to Impek out of voix du nord.
I have backed one against her! Almost as shocking as me having a dabble on one of Cosgrave's rides huh...lol. Have a good trip and send us some pics of that boy of yours eh. One of your others will be winning while you are away ;-)
The Longsdon horse Stick? The Gowran race has barely had a runner since but Jelan came out and won a few days ago(Jezki sister).
Pilgrims, although I agree that there is little wrong with the occasional small field to have race, after race, after race, after race after race containing merely a handful of runners benefits, long term, absolutely no-one in the sport. I guess the reasons for the small field NH races right now are: (i) as Beefy says the lack of give in the ground is putting handlers off and (ii) there are so many meetings the runners are spread way too thinly. Why we need 3, or sometimes 4, NH cards midweek I’ve never understood. 1 or 2 would easily suffice. This would lead to more competitive fields and bigger prizepots (because the loot is not spread over so many heats). Also benefits punters as it’s far easier to keep a handle on the form. Re the current conditions. Taunton, across the county line, have abandoned next Thursday’s card due to ‘the very dry spell experienced in the Taunton area since the beginning of July’.
Agree, arid conditions are not for NH racing, for sure. Will just have a modest R/F today in the mares' race at Market Rasen (13:40): Lost In Lecce and Wildehearted Woman. (The latter has a charming name for a mare, I would say?).
TEAK 1.30 Newbury Tools 10's earlier and the price is collapsing, best is 7's now. At anywhere near his best he would smash these off this mark. He hasn't exactly shone for a while but ran a cracker in the Cesarawitch recently. Tongue tie on and cheek pieces applied for the first time to concentrate the mind. Should run a big race in a very weak looking contest.
