It will matter when other companies ask for the same thing and we don't know how much it will cost. Should the electorate have been told pre Referendum that 'in order to keep companies in the U.K. post Brexit we will give them your money' instead of promising falsely to build new hospitals? General Motors next, they have been making the same noises as Nissan were.

Actually I support efforts to keep jobs safe. It's just a shame that it is necessary.

I'll interpret 'one man's democracy as another man's autocracy' as support for rejection of the 'will of the people' referendum result. Cheers.

Of course we should be told what assurances have been made and what the potential costs will be to the public purse. Yes, it does matter.

I am happy for the workers and their families too. It's somewhat ironic, though, that it's the people of Sunderland that will benefit from government intervention to mitigate the negative impact of Brexit, when it was the Sunderland referendum declaration that heralded the unexpected result.

In a new World, new deals are made. It's no good getting on your high horse and complaining about the Nissan deal when for hundreds of years companies have made deals with governments. If you think different you are deluded.
Seriously it really saddens me when you GRS lot cannot accept something that is good for workers of this country. As Digby said last night, it's all 'yes, but, well'. Instead of bitching about it and wanting our country to fail be supportive of it. He was spot on with his comments on certain 'remoaners' wanting us to fail so they can say 'I told you so'.
Let's just get on with it.

Of course the 'deal' could be that the Government has told Nissan that they have no intention of leaving the Single Market and will comply with all conditions, including free movement of people and payment to EU budgets, that the EU wishes to impose.

Then what was the point of the referendum? I think we will strike a deal whereby we have access to the single market but on our terms. The voters won't accept your theory. Anyway the EU will collapse so we will get what we want.

The point of the referendum was to try and settle some internal Tory party bitchfest. I thought that was obvious.

You really hate them don't you Ellers. If the EU collapses then there will be a global recession on a massive scale. It might be a bit **** but it's very complexity makes it dangerous to tinker with. And it would mean we have to negotiate 27 trade agreements instead of one. 'Dr' Fox to the rescue!

What will the voters do? Vote out the Tories? Great! Armed uprisings - come off it, we talk like lions but we sacrifice like lambs*.

The people who sell the Brexit voters down the river will be the government, not the Remainers or foreigners. An inconvenient truth, get used to it.

*bonus point for spotting the song reference.

Seems to me that some people want the EU to fail just so they can say "told you so."

I don't want the EU to fail it will do it on its own. When you have idiots in Brussels that are not forward thinking what do you expect?
Do you think it's our fault that Spain,Italy and Greece will default on payments?
is it our fault that some of the EU countries have no intention of paying back money?
Is it our fault that it has taken Canada 7 years to get a deal and nearly lost it because of some insignificant place in Belgium?
Is it our fault that we proposed 70 new ideas (yes 70) and not one was passed.
Is it our fault that Germany gets all the best deals from the EU and has the biggest say?
Did they listen when we had concerns about leaving? did they ****.!
They have themselves to blame and it is has been proven time and time again that they will not change.
Any good business adapts with the times or conditions of that time or they will fail.
    That's the EU problem.

The EU will IMO become stronger and stronger and parity on the Pound Next versus the Euro is just about there How does anyone see the pound recovering when no one knows the plan? I said a while ago that in my business many of the banks are about to adjust their focus away from London ( My company has 95% of all banks and insurance companies locked into solid contacts for all of their media in the UK ... We are flooded with requests to change head office addresses away fro the UK and that's the tip of the iceberg). The real powers that control the real power that is unfortunately money are and will always pull the shots.

Many people in the UK may feel a victory to call Europe names etc but it will be a shallow thing long term IMO

I can see us becoming a real expensive economy in the next years because we have little to compete with

To survive in my projected more expensive economy then i can't see Joe Public being able to afford as much as they did ... credit ceilings will be lowered and the housing crisis means only the rich will survive IMO so based on that the good old England camp can shout all they want because you haven't even got an united UK now you have a 52/48 split

So talking about work and the future means nothing in my book and because of the legacy greed culture in the UK I can only see I'm all right Jack getting worse.

I challenge anyone on here to be honest because even at grass roots a local committee for example for anything i am betting will be full of fluff and disagreement. Compare that to my experiences in French society it miles apart and things get done a lot quicker. The same people will say well F Off then ... I have in effect but that doesn't stop me caring deeply about my homeland

That's is sad but this is due to uncertainty plus the £/$ was always in a false position. When things calm down the pound will rise again.

Boris Johnson's new special advisor, a former diplomat, reckons that it's impossible to negotiate a trade agreement with the EU during the two years of Brexit discussions, and we should opt for a Norway agreement (I.e in the EU but with no say) for five years from 2019. I'll go with that, then we can reapply to join in 2024, only damage done to Tory credibility.

He's probably being told off because any discussion of Brexit by people in government is secret and should be hidden from our enemies in Europe and the electorate.

What you write about your Company iunderpins what the boss of the British Banks Association wrote recently about the major UK banks having projects going to move their operations to mainland Europe early next year, with smaller banks following later in the Year. Looks like they will be going ahead with this without assurance's the UK won't be leaving the free market. He also wrote they were by far the largest exporter in UK industry.

    The EU is decidedly undemocratic.
