Well, since you ask......good news for Nissan and Sunderland, a deal has been struck potentially involving tax payers money, would be nice to know what it is and which other multinationals would be offered it. But apparently it's a secret. The GDP figures are estimates based on less than half of the data. The final figures routinely vary by 50% either way. GDP is meant to express the monetary value of all goods and services produced. All the growth this quarter has been in services, construction and manufacturing have both shrunk. I think the more relevant measures are inflation, wage rises relative to inflation, unemployment and the government tax take. Inflation and unemployment on the way up but not too bad, wages up largely due to the new minimum wage, and tax take way down. If the GDP figure boost confidence a bit, great.
It was a joke Ellers. You always seem to come up with some random pundit you've seen on TV who agrees with you. That thumbs up thing really pisses me off by the way.
I actually agree with them. I listen to many news outlets with different views, put 2 and 2 together and get 5. We should be happy with this news today. It's not about proving people wrong it's about the future of our country and our jobs. A long way to go but a major deal it is. People can fluff it up but it's jobs for many workers. Other companies will follow suit as they say in the business world. All we need to do now is sort out the pound because I need more Euro's. Just waiting for Spain, Italy and Greece to do what's expected and the pound will rise again! If not what's Skegness like in August?
please log in to view this image Yikes! That's it I want back in so I spend my time on the French Riviera!
I thought he did very well. I noticed he Stole my 'Remoaners' term which I stole off some bloke from the Mail. I liked his GRS (Great remain sulk) term as well. and... and... They mentioned Italy Spain and Greece and the fall of the Euro. In 2 years it will be back to the Riviera for me with 3 Euro's to the Pound. Lovely Jubbly!
Just watching the Politics Show, with 'Lord' Digby Jones responding to questions about what assurances Nissan might have been given. He seemed angered that the question should even be posed and said that this was 'the problem with democracy'.
I missed that bit Stroller but many companies do deals with states or governments. I said this earlier in this thread that business will always come before anything (that includes immigration, rules, laws and so on). When it comes down to it the people in Brussels won't get in the way of big deals... ask Canada.
A bit like our selling arms to Saudi Arabia I suppose. As Boris said, 'If we don't, someone else will'.
I see where you are going with that comment. Are you saying, do I believe that we should know the deal with Nissan? The answer is, does it matter? One mans democracy is another mans autocracy. I am happy for all those workers and their families.
Nissan has confirmed it will build both the new Qashqai and the X-Trail SUV at its Sunderland plant thanks to government "support and assurances". Colin Lawther, Nissan's senior vice president for manufacturing in Europe, told The World At One's Martha Kearney the government had not given the company a special deal.
The economic numbers since the Brexit vote are thank the heavens not too bad. Nor are they grest. The £ continues its fall against the major other currencies and others, most likely because the continuation of the UK in the single European market remains in doubt. Until the Government and the EU can clarify that the £'s fall is likely to continue, and we risk reduction in our Services economy if Banking and Finance, and overseas employers, move their operations to the free market across the Channel.
