So who would be your first choice eleven as of now from the below pool of ex-saints of 2012 onwards and the current squad?
Boruc
Stek
Clyne
Chambers
Shaw
Lovren
Alderweireld
Schneiderlin
Cork
Wanyama
Lallana
Puncheon
Ramirez
Mane
4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 Diamond?
Current team without exception. Alderweireld, Schneiderlin, & Mane would all make the squad or be interchangeable with existing starters, but unlike others I don't think there's any guaranteed upgrades by getting any of the old players back.
Sorry but that's nonsense.
Toby is the best cb in the league imo and would improve on Fonte/Maya massively.
Clyne is twice the player of any of our right backs.
Mane would still walk into our team.
I won't bother with Morgan as he hasn't played a lot so there's an argument to be had.
The 3 above aren't even up for debate imo.
But not Fonte and VVD at all, so the Belgian bloke can do and do one.

Just because you don't like our current RB's as being the best position in our team, does not make Clyne's outstanding contribution to a porous Liverpool defence any better. So that'll explain why we're playing worse this season then, because we're missing all of these great players. Maya is not a 1st choice starter, so I've no idea why you've mentioned him.
Maya is not a first choice CB. Does that make it clearer.?Eh? You've lost me?
Okay Toby's a better cb than Fonte then... not exactly controversial.
The question was who would make a best combined team. You said none... I challenged that and said those 3 certainly would.
Maya is not a first choice CB. Does that make it clearer.?
As it happens, when the Belgain was playing for us, he became injured and Gardos came in and we barely missed him. So no thanks. That was then and this is now.

I can accept the opinion of someone saying they think one is slightly better than another in each of those cases, but 'certainly would', no. If it was that certain, then how come we've improved each season while only ever recruiting direct replacements in the positions of the players that you are so certain are better? As I said, close calls maybe or small preferences, but there's no definitely in there for me. Agree to disagree?

I still think Toby is the best cb in the league![]()

Also Clyne "twice the player", please!!Just because you don't like our current RB's as being the best position in our team, does not make Clyne's outstanding contribution to a porous Liverpool defence any better.
I agree with Liebherr. Absolutely 100% I'd put Clyne back in for Cuco. Toby is better than Fonte, and I'd have Mane over Redmond or Austin. I'd also have Schneiderlin over Clasie. Probably Cork over Clasie too.
Sorry if this offends some people.
You may be right, but they have gone. Very few teams get to keep all their best players. They are dead to me. I think we have a very strong adaptable team. If wishes were horses etc
NB One question...would we have signed VVD if Toby had stayed? Possibly because we think ahead, but perhaps we would have turned our attention to another position as we would have had Toby, Fonte, Maya and (possibly) Gardos.
In that case...I agree that the ones you named would still be in our team. You're right of course. I'm not complaining about having let them gone. Was just answering the question someone put on page 1 about which players who had recently left would still make it into the current team were they here.
