Pence is probably worse than Trump because he might actually be taken seriously and get stuff passed.

I like Kaine. I don't know a whole lot about him which is probably why I like him. What i have heard I mostly agree with though. I like McMullin too. Both seem common sense candidates rather than ideologues.

I still think it may be like Brexit in that although most of the core Out vote was as vocal as could be, there was an assumption that the majority of the 'don't knows' would fall into line with the status quo on the day, much as they did in Scotland. I personally thought that'd be rubbish simply based upon the anecdotal evidence of workmates, neighbours and family. I said right up to the 30/6 that there was roughly a 10% discrepancy in the polls in that some people who were wanting to vote Out were keeping quiet about it as they weren't too keen on defending Farage and the homemade gun brigade.

I don't know the US that well and don't have the anecdotal evidence for this, but, and I hope I'm wrong, I again fear there's a 10% underbelly in the polls who despise Trump and his loony followers, but are being seduced by this utterly bogus 'anti-establishment' message that was peddled, ironically, by establishment pillars over here like Murdoch, Dacre and the Telegraph; and is getting the same whiney support now from Fox and suchlike over there. As Obama said, who on earth believes a multi-billionaire who's tried to court celebrity and the glitterati is anti-establishment, but plenty enough hicks and rednecks do.

What infuriates me is this 'disposed, ignored white unemployed, left behind by globalisation' narrative. All of this is true - but why the hell don't these morons see that it was neo-liberal, Anglo-American economics that did this, not people with different coloured skin or languages/religion? Pah.

I live in a State that is typically about as strong Republican HQ as it comes. I know Trump is ahead in the polls here but I dont know anyone personally who wants him to win. I see a bunch more Hillary bumper stickers and "yard signs" than I do Trump ones.

Based on what I see in public I'd expect Hillary to walk all over Trump but poll numbers show him out in front. People definitely don't feel confident in showing support for him even here where he polls ahead of Hillary.

Brexit came about because of the protest vote. If the same thing happens, it's the protest voters who will be handing this to Trump on a plate. I hope the protest voters stay at home.

If Trump wins, it will be a very dangerous precedent. I wonder if he is going to last four years term?.
 
A private vendetta against any of his enemies could get him impeached if he's not careful. Any attempt to over-reach his power could get him impeached.

As I've said before. I think Pence is more dangerous so don't know id want Trump impeached.

Democrats won't play nice with Trump and Trump has made an enemy of the rest of the Republican party. Trump will be a completely powerless president unable to get his policies passed.

Pence might earn some cooperation for his endeavours.

No president has ever been convicted on impeachment charges and there's probably a good reason for that. The checks and balances system of government prevents any one branch holding too much power. What Trump has said he will do is one thing, putting it into action is another. Any impeachment would likely be for a personal breach like Clinton rather than a governmental misdemeanour.

Only because one resigned before it happened...

The worst he has promised so far is to state that Clinton belongs in jail and he would insist his Attorney General made it happen...that would would violate a fair few parts of the constitution and breach executive authority completely..fairly sure that'd get it done...if he went ahead with it of course lol..but give a bully power and all that....obviously it would depend on the make up of Congress too.

What i understand is there is a huge uninvolved set of voters in the primaries and honestly i dont know who the hell gets polled in the us. Is it totally random or so they go to registered party members etc etc.

No idea.

Anyway.... god knows... the thing is theres been a lot of landslides in us elections. Are they signalled as such in polls?

Does this really just boil back down to 3 swing states in the end?
 
On a sort of related thread, did anyone else Question Time last night and the local Hartlepool UKIP hicks shouting down that poor Polish woman when she said they no longer felt welcome? Whatever the result in the US, when the Project Hate genie is released from the bottle it's damned hard to put it back in again. Oh, and talking of Project hate, just look at the stick the S#n is giving Lineker. Never thought I'd feel obliged to support him. Trump has released the beast too, in no uncertain way, imo.

Nixon wasn't impeached but two impeachments have occurred that failed in conviction. Other than bribery and treason it depends on how the Senate interprets high crimes and misdemeanours as it's them who vote on conviction. At present it's made up of 54 Rep, 44 Dem, 2 Ind.
