She's right, the original was a 1950's black and white "The Thing From Another World". Then Carpenter's "The Thing" in 1982, and finally the pointless prequel, also called The Thing, in 2011. They're based on the book "Who Goes There?"

Anyone watched that new programme Westworld? I've watched first 3 episodes so think I'm up to date. It's pretty ****ing strange IMO but really interesting as well. Can't wait to watch the rest.
Yes I am, thought it was a western , but I will stick with it, very good cast, and as you say interesting, and watchable so far, there is not too much competition about at present, tbh.
Yes it has been very good so far, but can they keep up the plot twists, too many layers could be its downfall, but the early signs are good, its watchable, and very well cast.
It is a remake of an old film, and I suppose the format of how it works it kind of is a Western, just a modern/futuristic weird concept And no, nothing on at the moment or nothing new at least. Walking Dead back on Monday and that and GOT is about all I'm bothered about. Gave up on a few as well recently after watching a couple series.
Yeah I've been watching it, I wasn't sure about it after the first one but after the second I'm definitely into it. I like shows that don't hold your hand but when it's as off the wall as Westworld it can take a bit of time to settle in. But yeah I'm sure it'll be a great show, I like a bit of dark, thought provoking sci-fi and I like westerns too. I saw the film some time ago, I think the tv show will turn out to be much better.
Did you read the book by any chance? I read the other Langdon books when I was much younger but really struggled to finish Inferno, didn't enjoy it as much. We almost went to see the film tonight as well. Maybe wait and not bother paying for it.
I haven't but my wife has read all of the Langdon books. I don't think she was that impressed either.
Westworld is another TV series based on a 1970s film of the same name. Yul Brinner took the part of a rogue AI robot and pretty much acted like he was in the Magnificent Seven, but it was a cautionary tale about computers becoming smarter than people.
Along the same lines as "The Thing", "Invasion of The Body Snatchers" was another black and white 50s film that got a 1970s makeover. The original was good, but I prefer the Donnald Sutherland version. There must be a load more black and white films that could be remade well, particularly the sci-fi films that would be improved with modern CGI. I don't understand the current Hollywood fascination with remaking, or worse, "reimagining" already perfectly decent films. They're apparently going to remake Logan's Run, but with Logan as a woman.
I'll have to disagree about True Grit, as I prefered John Wayne. I didn't realise that 3:10 to Yuma was a remake. I'll have to watch the original now. Cheers for mentioning that one. I'm avoiding The Magnificent Seven remake. That's one that surely never needed doing. Are they going to remake The Great Escape, and The Sound of Music next?
Each to their own Neil but I thought that John Wayne was an appalling actor, talk about stereo-typical acting. I mean in the 'Longest Day' one of my all time favourites all he says is sentences such as 'The Hell I Will'
