Better from Squire- looked himself tonight. Now get him over 12f FFS Enjoy the place money both and have a great evening at Kempton if staying on
Missed the race as well! Too busy watching Ultra marathon clips on youtube!! Great to get a place, well done Squire!!!
Well done lads. Looks like ye could have some fun on the all weather over the winter. Best of luck with Buzz.
Chuffed to bits with Squire tonight. Back to somewhere near what we expect. Ideally we would find him an 11f race but we may give toppy his wish and up him to 12f, Chelmsford maybe. Buzz was disappointing again, failed to stay and it is highly likely that we will call time on him now.
Stick, nobody seems to have mentioned the role of your jockey tonight. I may be biased, because I have such respect for Luke Morris, but I thought he gave your boy an admirable ride. Always in the right place (and 11/14 over a mile at Kempton isn't a good draw, imo), got the horse into a potentially winning position a furlong and a half out, gave him full physical support, didn't overtax him when the race couldn't be won, but still made sure of the place money. If Squire was mine, Luke's would be the first number I'd ring next time. Not sure I agree with the up-in-trip school, but I'll defer to wiser heads. Well done, anyway - he must give you a lot of pleasure.
I think you are spot on Rainer. Luke is a great pilot, very aggressive which is ideal for our boy who needs strong handling. I think that's 3 or 4 times he has ridden him now and has never been out of the frame. Rab has always been our go to pilot as he has won on him twice but I seriously think that Luke should probably become our first choice. I think Squire is a true 10f horse and my vote would be to take him to Chelmsford next and find a nice 10f handicap for him there. He has had a troubled season with a wind op mid season followed by a throat infection but all the signs were there before the race that he was himself again. He will have gained confidence from that and really should go very close wherever we run him next. As for the pleasure aspect, I cannot even begin to describe how amazing owning him has been. I love him to bits and still am in awe of where he has taken us!
