Match Day Thread Tottenham Hotspur v Bayer Leverkusen

Our youth system still seems to be producing players, but the results have been **** this season.
Still plenty of work to do, I guess, after years of struggling to bring anyone decent through.

Read somewhere that Walker was being rested , otherwise same team as everyone else has posted.
Still mystified why Wimmer is so out of favour not even on the bench? Can anyone shed some light on it.
For Pochettino it seems there is one RCB and one LCB, not two CBs. Wimmer is a LCB and doesn't make the bench because one of our LBs, Davies, can also play LCB.

Brave team sheet for tonight.
Pochettino is really getting his squad rotation groove sorted early this season.

Would there be an argument for playing

Vertonghen AND Alderwiereld

OR

Wimmer AND Dier/Carter-Vickers

?

Pretty much the line up I'd have expected. Glad to see Janssen's starting upfront, he was probably our best player in the West Brom game. He just needs to start bloody scoring!

Quite worried about their partnership upfront though. Kiessling might be getting on but he's a big lump and I think Dier and Vertonghen will struggled in the aerial battles against him. We all know Chicharito's a great goalscorer too. We really need to limit their crosses tonight so our fullbacks will be very important. We also need to make sure our midfield make the extra man count so we can control the game, Dembele would have been hugely helpful in that so it's disappointing that he's still not fit.

If anyone wants to join me in losing a few quid, I'm going for a 4-2 Spurs win tonight <ok>

Because there is no outright replacement for Toby, that leaves Wimmer out.
Jan has really got to front up now as the senior CB.

I would love for Pochettino to have confidence that a Wimmer/CCV combo could
hold its own at least at PL level. The League Cup game against the Poool
will be the first test of that.

I'm surprised we've not started with 2 holding midfielders, bearing in mind they seem to be playing 2 up top. - not to mention the fact that they have some dangerous attacking players.

How much money is Gary Lineker making from working for the BBC and BT Sport?
Must be able to buy quite a few packets of crisps.
