Thanks again, QMII. Nice write-up. Good luck with your bet, what more can I say but (a slightly different albeit legitimate variation)........Insha'allah! (My amazing weekend punt info will come up shortly; also at Ascot................).
Oh dear, was he? I certainly did not know that. Have his biography, know he was a maths teacher early on, with an interest in the sport of kings, just like us? Was indeed a prickly character though.
16:25 Ascot : Third Time Lucky (Hopeful Richard Fahey's charge will run a big one here. Drawn 21 slap-bang on the nearside stands rail, if I've got it right. My lucky No.13 too . Good handicapper with a very promising young apprentice riding. 8/1 with most of the bookies atm. That will do for my weekend bet). Hope you all have a very successful day!
Simple Verse may just have hit form at the right time, with Order Of St George having tilted at the Arc and therefore hampering preparation for this. Forgotten Rules is tempting and his reappearance was excellent giving away that weight to Twiligjt Payment, but he will definitely need he fav to underperform as that one beat Twilight Payment giving it a stack of weight. The filly gets some weight and is so classy- I'd argue a stamina test is now her strength and she lacks the gears for tip top middle distance. I'm taking The Tin Man to reverse form with Quiet Reflection on better ground today and Meccas Angel wants 5f on soft in my view so I'm against her. The Tin Man looks to have been progressing all year and hopefully this is his opportunity today. Queens Trust looked steadily progressive all year and I wonder if the big crescendo is today for Sir Michael Stoute. SMS always brings them on gradually and all the nice places form is in the book for what has been a steady campaign. All best runs (in my view) were right handed including a stormer over course and distance. Can surprise at double figures. Awtaad has run just one bad race all year and that came at helter skelter Goodwood on fast ground. It's good ground today, he was back on track last time and can sign off with a massive run at a disrespectful price of 12/1. Ribchester far too short and Minding is the one to beat. Awtaad e/w for me. The Champion Stakes looks a good rematch between Almanzor and Found but this race could be run differently to Leopardstown and Found has to recover from that outstanding run in France. I'm tempted to just go speculatively e/w on Racing History 33/1 because he has only had 5 runs and his brother (Farrhr) improved hugely as a 4 year old. It's interesting that they put him in here and don't simply rely on Jack Hobbs.
It's what made him so successful using maths in a Marxist framework applied to horse racing and bingo -time form was born !
No disrespect to the connections of The Tin Man because he is a good horse, but so far Champions’ Day is starting to look like a good day to be a bookmaker with a pitch at Ascot as I would not consider either of the first two winners to be Champions and the best older horse in Europe (according to the ratings), Postponed, is not even there. (And that is not just sour grapes or talking through my wallet because my sole bet on the card was beaten. )
Two darts for this lad today. In 4.35 at Cork I like Miss Ballygalley chances at 6/1 following a decent effort over trip lto out at Listowel. In the lucky last at Ascot Donncha could be the forgotten horse of the field and has decent place claims at a nice price of 20/1.
Did he say that it was better than sex? This might be an indication of Queally’s career/life trajectory since Frankel retired – one of them is regularly getting his leg over. Next he will be signing for ITV to be with Mick Fitz.
Mr Tabor didn't seem to enthusiastic about his horses today, so last years second hopefully can go one better. JOURNEY it is.
Gets monotonous I know, but what a hell of a jockey Frankie Dettori is. Terrific ride on Journey, absolutely set her alight in the straight, hands and heels to the finish. Wow! Like what trainer Gosden said of Journey, immensely talented but she's a wild little creature! Shout Mick!
Makes up for the poor ride given on yesterday's horse had some of the 8's this morning but went in again just before the off after listening to Mr Tabor. Unfortunately was backed into 4's, but not complying. Can put a little more on RAVENHILL ROAD.
