Newcastle fan in peace. Various media reports suggest we are closing in on Obertan, and from what I know, he's absolutely ****e. Can you make me feel better if the rumour's true or is he really just hopeless?

Where does he play? I've only seen him on the wing but sounds like a pretty awful signing.

Across the midfield. He has looked great in pre-season but that means little considering how awful the opposition were.

He is a winger with lots of pace and skills on the ball. Pretty decent shot too.His biggest problem is he has no confidence in his ability and looks lost most of the time he's on the pitch.

Might just not be able to cope with playing for United. Same thing happened with Tim Howard, that turned out alright for Everton.

He is probably the best dribbler we have, maybe even the most skillful on the ball. But he just needs to do the basics right. I remember the Cup game against Southampton last season. Was pretty awful floating about the pitch, 2nd half, told to stick to the right hand side and be a winger and got the assist for Owen's goal.

I think he came to United too soon. Pretty sure Laurent Blanc said much the same thing.

He does have ability, but his decision making isn't the best.

Christ, our team isn't THAT bad.

Couldn't be more underwhelmed by this potential signing.

Agree with this. He's got skill and lots of pace, but doesn't seem to be aware of his role in the team. He'll get the ball and set off like a missile, beating players like they aren't there, but ultimately ends up going nowhere with no consistent end product. He doesn't seem to think about where he's going to go in advance, he just runs and hopes it all works out ok. With some consistent game time he'd probably get better, but it's a question of will he find a manager patient enough to wait for him to learn. Although there are also questions over whether he has the mental strength to get through the learning stage and work out how to work with his teammates.

He could be an immense future talent, but then he will also be a big gamble in the short term.

He's got skill and pace, would do well for a midtable team. Not good enough for us.

Doesn't say much if he's outplayed by the Crawley's defenders. Hope they're rumours for your sake.

Cheers for the response. It would appear he's only Wayne Routledge's replacement so I'm not too upset. At least we're signing people!

Obertan has the Talent to be a quality player and he is lightening quick, what he lacks is confidence, if you do sign him get behind the lad and he might just surprise you.

I hope we have put a sell on clause or buy back fee in the deal because when the penny finally drops with Gabby he will be a monster of a player.

A poor player in my opinion and is not premiership quality.
