It must be frustrating for NA. He spends time thinking about how the prospective player can fit in, then it falls through at the last minute and back to the drawing board. However, if the player isn't delighted to be on the bus then it's better to find out now.

I can confirm that yes he was there yesterday, until 5pm last night i believe a deal has been done and waiting for puncheon to agree terms with qpr before its annouced we have signed him!

Think pre season has shown Martin's ranking in Adkins team. 4th choice now & down to 5th WHEN new CB signed. Got a feeling he will only play for Saints by Default if the other 3 choices are unable to play. Injured, illness or suspension. Then he will be given the chance to take the shirt but only by default.

 

if martin is that low down, why does it explain his new LONG TERM contract just signed? clearly adkins rates him

 

He is in Adkins plans that much is obvious, but still young and while jaidi, seabourne ANC potentially a new cb signing to be made, it would seem he won't feature much this season, esp with only 5 subs!

I do see him going on a year long Long loan to a league 1 club with the option to recall when nessicary!!

Nxt season I can't see jaidi being here and maybe seabourne night move on!! So nxt year is more the time for Martin! But I could be wrong

 

You've answered your own question. He's here for the LONG TERM. Adkins seemingly sees him as a big part of our FUTURE.

Absoloutely nothing in the decision to give him that contract says to me "first-team regular this season".

 

If it has failed what is the betting that he was not guaranteed a first team start as we already have a decent squad.

 

Facts show he is 4th choice was all last season & nothing has changed. Think you have had this point explained to you several times by several users in the past. Obviously you are blinded to the facts with your obsession that Martin is a prem player. He has potential. COULD be great player but as yet 4th choice. Adkins has shown Seaborne Fonte partnership is favoured at the moment, due to Seaborne doing well pre season games. Jaidi above Martin with his experience & games. Martin will only play if others not available. Nothing to do with length of contract. Think he will go out on loan this year to get the experience he needs. As you have said yourself today on another post, he has only just come from non league with only a few league 1 games. Has potential. If he gets his chance by default he's got to take it. Not prem player yet, else Arsenal would be knocking on his door not Chambo's
