Guidolin’s nine-month reign is set to come to an end after Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Liverpool, Swansea’s fourth loss in a row, and the Italian has told close friends that he expects to lose his job in the next few days. Giggs, the former Manchester United and Wales winger, is one of Swansea’s top targets to take over and is understood to have met with the club’s American owners in London on Thursday.

As reported by Telegraph Sport, Giggs was poised to meet with Jenkins before Wednesday’s EFL Cup tie with Manchester City on September 21st before Swansea’s majority shareholders, Steve Kaplan and Jason Levien, blocked the move.

But Guidolin has now suffered five league defeats in the last six games and, despite another improved performance in the home defeat to Liverpool, Swansea are reluctantly prepared to make a change. - Telegraph

It is understood that Giggs is not guaranteed for the job, with competition from former USA coach Bob Bradley while Swansea’s owners are thought to have spoken with another unknown candidate before this weekend’s game.

Guidolin’s future at the Liberty Stadium will be decided in the next 24 hours and it is widely anticipated that a statement confirming his departure will come this week, possibly as early as Monday. ................<ok>

I get no satisfaction from Guidolin losing his job. Simply because it means we are in trouble, I think he seems like a good guy and I wish he had got things right and it hadn't come to this. I am not sure that he was ever right for us but he gave it his best. Do I want Ryan Giggs, the honest answer is probably no. His lack of managerial experience is a big worry. If they bring in and experienced no.2 it may work. Would I prefer Giggs over Guidolin. I don't think so.

Francesco Guidolin and Swansea Are Not A Doomed Combination

In his programme notes today, Huw Jenkins spoke of the need for patience and recognised that there has been a lot of change at the Liberty Stadium over the past eighteen months. He’s right. Guidolin has been the most notable difference, but there’s also been a recession in the native style. Swansea are a more cautious side these days and their ambition has been dialled back; that’s not a problem in itself, but it does look – to a neutral, at least – as if the current squad, in its shape and personnel, is caught somewhere between the old and new way of doing things. And, ultimately, as if there remains a gap between the players Guidolin wants and those he has. Or what they’re able to do and what he wants from them.

What happens in the coming days is anyone’s guess. The American owners are in town and the head-coach’s position is bound to come under scrutiny. From the outside, though, the last thing this club appears to need is more flux. Another deviation, from one approach to another, from one philosophy to another, will likely just create greater instability. The visible gaps in Swansea’s formation are irritating and have already derailed several performances this season, but they are temporary; symptoms of imperfection rather than outright crisis.

Guidolin is a likeable character and perhaps his admirable magnamity is influencing this plea for patience, but beyond the results there’s something positive in what he’s building, even if it’s not glaringly apparently yet. - Seb Stafford-Bloor

I knew this Liverpool game would be a defining moment for Franco, and it's a shame our players let him and the club down, a game that was truly winnable, with so many chances that went begging, from poor decisions from Routledge all game, to Van Der Hoorne's unbelievable miss. This game we should have put to bed first half, but now we see again another managerial change, and I truly hope we get a manager that will come with birch to whack our pansies into shape, it's clear to me that our players need a serious strong manager to really put these egos into shape and if they don't like it, they can bloody well piss off!.............<ok>

If he's not the standard of manager we need, who's fault is that?

Correct Dai. I wouldn't place such a responsibility on you. But if an appointee is not good enough to do the job, who's fault is it?

Guildo...He picks the side and he decides how we are going to play......We cant keep giving him the benefit of the doubt all the time as the games are passing us by and it's another loss....This time after leading at HT....Its not good enough and we need a new manager with fresh ideas and fresh approach......We have another international break coming up an ideal time to make some serious changes.....

I think it's finally a realisation we are never going anywhere under Franco, sad but true, though our players should take a large slice of blame.....<ok>

So no responsibility from the person/people who appointed him then?

There`s a cracking young manager who`s doing a sterling job in the Championship, but I don`t think Leeds will let him go! <cracker>

What the hell are you on about....The club appointed him just like every other clubs appoint their managers........What are you trying to say ? All we can see is that it's not worked out and like most clubs they replace their manager and most of them would have replaced him sooner and not let games go by giving him the benefit of the doubt. Should stoke win then we will be in the Bottom 3 and hull two places above us are already 3 points ahead and two teams above Hull have a game in hand.......We cannot afford to let the bottom half clubs get away from us or we will be in serious trouble and we will end up having to rely on other clubs results instead of our destiny in our own hands.....

So you let a guy continue as manager and buy your #recordsigning who only gets to play a single full game in which he creates a goal against the champions-elect before you sack the manager

    So ******ed

It's a bit like Rodgers continuing for us. Except we got all our money back on Benteke (PL proven). You won't get your money back on Borja if the new manager doesn't like him. And we gave Rodgers another chance because Klopp wasn't available right away. You're getting rid of Guidolin for Giggs <laugh> <doh>

Why do you think Monk never had an experienced number 2 ( where things may have turned better if he had ) because the arsehole jenkins wouldn't pay out the extra money , quite happy to use the existing staff .It didn't happen then it isn't going to now .
