Me neither, I haven't been asked about bribery to be honest. Aren't the telegraph bribing Black by buying him dinner and drink to make his tongue loose? In addition, it seems like bribery in the loosest sense, he's just paying people bungs to do him favours from my point of view... That's just like paying agents at the end of the day.

Anyways, cheerio Black. I wouldn't have Sammy back either. Sammy likes a drink, so no doubt he'll be snared.

Bribery is a crime - If that is what has happened. Admittedly it is very hard to draw full conclusions without all the information.

The benefit of a police investigation is that peoples names arent dragged through the mud to try and make a quick buck. If not all the people named have done much wrong (Jimmy F-H as an example may not have done anything) then the press still tear into them. But the police can investigate and if someone is clean, their public image isnt completely tarnished.

1. You think if it was a police investigation, the players name wouldn't still get dragged through the mire?

2. What instigates a police investigation? The media in this case, if a crime has been committed, have done the police a favour by doing some leg work.

I don't know. I don't really have a problem with undercover journalists or sting operations. I don't think the press are doing their job if they aren't trying to ferret out corruption.

I do kinda have a problem with undercover journalism in this instance. Because to me the injustice here is rather mild. It's football, not a multibillion pound government contract or human rights being violated. And I don't like the way The Telegraph is reporting this for maximum profit and drama rather than simply revealing the facts and alerting the authorities. They appear to me more eager to make a buck than to right an injustice and that's not exactly ethical journalism either.

The paper are trying to make a buck I agree, but that's their prerogatuve. People''s choice is to buy it or not. It is not as globally important as the other things you say, but there is no law as to what subjects journalists should cover or investigate.

The bottom line in all this for me is not about how it is being covered, but the fact these people have allegedly been corrupt. Always in situations when journalists do these type of things there is some focus on their methods and if they should be doing it, but that should never excuse any guilty party, if of course they have done wrong. Anybody not doing wrong should sue the arsenoff the paper.


How many people have been done by the police for speeding by a parked fan on the side of a dual carriageway? I have and I have turned up to Speed Awareness courses And listened to people complaining that the police should be out catching burglars and drug dealers instead of being parked in a van drinking coffee behind a camera. Bottom line is that the people (me included) shouldn't be speeding.

It's not as serious but the principal is the same.

It is not ok to do something wrong just because you can get away with it or it is not going to hurt someone or cause human rights issues.

Spot on on the second paragraph. Anyone who thinks the Telegraph are doing this an act of getting the truth out or goodwill etc. is in dreamlamd quite frankly.

They haven't even passed everything over to the FA yet, why not?

I think the focus should be on the wrong doing, not whether or not a newspaper is making money from Reporting it.

From that video, you'd have to think that Black introduced them to Tommy Wright, who was both AM at Barnsley and a scout. Which would make his involvement far more than a hypothetical.

Another thing: the top-level individuals involved have absolutely no excuse, but it is somewhat comical how underpaid coaches and managers (particularly in the Championship) are relative to their charges. Not that they aren't making a decent living in most cases, but there's something a bit absurd about having sway over someone making 5x what you are.

I really hope Mr Black had nothing to do with any of our transfers since he's been here.

'Entrapment' seems to be a defence for these people. Apart from the mixture of ego, greed and stupidity which allows them to go into these meetings thinking it's all 'ok', it's about time personal responsibility became an issue. We are all responsible for our own behaviour. We all make mistakes, but cannot blame it all on a 'culture' or others actions.


He really needs to go if the Club is serious about it's attitude to corruption, agent manipulation and how it does business.

I agree with the sentiment, however IF he is named, then I think the club need to handle it very carefully and that could mean suspending him while they try and get more information. At the very least he'd need to be in someone senior's office tomorrow as soon as that flight lands for a very direct conversation.

I have represented a number of people in this position and as a trade unionist I would have insisted on suspension to protect the individual. I would have done this for a shop assistant accused of pilfering a can of beans. There is no way Eric Black can be on the touchline on Sunday. He would be a distraction to all concerned.

Once the investigation by Southampton FC (not the ****ing Torygraph!) has run its course they must decide his future. The presumption of innocence still holds.

Just watched the video and read Mr. Blacks statement and his version of events does stand up to the video evidence.
In that he recommended someone who would be willing to do some external scouting for a start up football agency and recommend talent.

I have no idea if this is outside the rules or not. I assume it is for the Telegraph to make a big deal out of it.

The good news for Eric is that he was not taking or proposing to take any money or do anything himself. So this is at a far lower level than the Barnsley chap and Fat Sam.

It probably won't be enough for him to hold on to his job at saints as he is not discouraging potential corruption, but this is pretty small fry

An unhelpful side distraction. Sounds like these kind of dealings are rife & probably nearly everyone is involved to some degree.

However, as some have said, a lot of it is unethical but I think if a friend asked for some inside advice a lot of us may give tips.

In any case you always need the full transcript. You could talk about corruption and bribery in a conversational way and have it cut to sound like you are condoning it or joining in. Black's real problem is Southampton's stance of siding with the angels....we will give him a fair hearing, whilst carefully making sure that no dirt can stick to us. Les and Ralph will have already picked up their skirts and run for the hills.

I haven't listened to the interview Black Allegedly had. At the very least I would say he could be charged by the FA and or Premier league for bringing the game into disrepute. (Or similar) After reading the various posts on here if they are correct. That alone could give Saints all they need to dismiss him. (You will recall that when Dave Jones was under some sort of investigation he was suspended and compensated later but dismissed in the end even though he was not guilty according to the enquiry)
Saints simply do not like being associated with any kind of sleaze and Kathryn will be non to pleased either. I am doubtful he will be here by the end of next week or maybe this weekend even
What he did may seem mild to some, but he was or allegedly was trying to enhance himself with the so called investors. That interview on its own proves he cannot be trusted.......and Saints will not want to be associated with any member of staff that cannot be trusted. You can trust me on that.........
