Nobody wins any prizes For being on top in September, And whatever else it disguises That´s something we all should remember, There´s an awful long, long way to go And who´ll still be strong at the end, The first nine games so barely show But a message it does start to send Although of the nine teams we´ve played Only three reside in the top half, So not much wheat yet, on parade To stick its head above the chaff, But the next two we have to meet Should give us a better idea, And if we avoid a defeat I´d say we should all give a cheer Just as it was in the PL We must maintain a status quo, Against others tipped to do well For any advantage to show, Although there, it was those in strife With whom we were battling each game, Down here it´s quite another life But the principle remains the same.
Excellent RBF and we'll know a lot more about our prospects for the forthcoming season by 19.30 on 1st October. Any points won should be applauded and as long as our GD doesn't suffer too much, I'll be quite happy.
As always sir, you are right on the money, I'd dearly love to beat Toon and Wolves, but agree that if we avoid defeat it will be very acceptable!
Two away wins 1 - 0 would do nicely and then I would start to believe that we could gain auto promotion.
No none of that will do, I want us to tear them a new one, I want revenge for last year, so at least a 4 goal margin! Would happily take a draw or two in these next two games. Not losing to Newcastle would be great to maintain the current gap to who will surely be ammoungst the auto promotion contenders. Wolves are proving tough to beat with only 2 loses in their 9 games so far, so it would be a great 3 points there if we can get them. Bah!
Considering the amount that both of our next opponents have spent in the last transfer window, I'd love us to take points of both teams and would be happy with 2 draws. A win in either game would go a long way to convincing me that perhaps AN and the team 'have turned the corner!!'
I'm causiously optomistic for the games this week. Both sides should be trying to win the games and so I think it will give our talented attackers the room to go win it for us. That said our defense also is generous at times with the space it leaves the Oppo, so Messers Gayle etc could also make hay. COYY Bah!
I can't remember the last time a team scored against us when the goal was scored as a result of the other team's skill.
Interestingly last time we were in the division at this stage under Neil Adams we were top too. The others around us have changed but its a very similar looking table. 14-15 1 Norwich City 9 6 2 1 20 8 2 2 0 9 4 4 0 1 11 4 +12 20 2 Nottingham Forest 9 5 4 0 17 7 3 2 0 12 4 2 2 0 5 3 +10 19 3 Wolverhampton Wndrs 9 5 3 1 11 6 4 0 0 6 1 1 3 1 5 5 +5 18 4 Watford 9 5 2 2 17 10 3 1 0 12 4 2 1 2 5 6 +7 17 5 Ipswich Town 9 5 2 2 13 7 4 0 1 8 2 1 2 1 5 5 +6 17 6 Derby County 9 4 4 1 17 10 2 2 0 9 4 2 2 1 8 6 +7 16 As with this season we were not always playing well or totally convincing but we topped the table by a solitary point. Now I don't think this team and this manager will fall away in the same way that the class of Adams did in 2014-15. But with Adams we were at that point twice as well off in GD as this term. That season we lost the next game to chalton (Then 7th) and then didn't win for 5 games dropping to 6th before a win vs Bolton and then 3 loses and a draw before the next win vs Wigan. By which point we'd dropped to 8th and were 8 points off the top! 16-17 1 Norwich City 9 6 2 1 16 10 4 1 0 9 4 2 1 1 7 6 +6 20 2 Huddersfield Town 9 6 1 2 11 7 4 0 0 7 3 2 1 2 4 4 +4 19 3 Brighton and Hove A 9 5 2 2 12 6 4 0 1 9 2 1 2 1 3 4 +6 17 4 Reading 9 5 2 2 10 10 3 2 0 6 3 2 0 2 4 7 0 17 5 Newcastle United 9 5 1 3 17 7 2 0 2 7 5 3 1 1 10 2 +10 16 6 Birmingham City 9 4 4 1 11 7 2 1 1 6 4 2 3 0 5 3 +4 16 So it has been a good start but can Neil succeed where Neyul failed? Bit early to say but I think/hope so. But its a funny old division and lose to Newcs and Wolves and the nerves will start jangling again good and proper. Bah!
Interesting post General. I was just thinking how if we'd had the team playing with the same passion and self belief that we've seen in the last 2 League games, then I'm sure we would have beaten either 1p5wich or Windows and not been humiliated at Brum. IMO, AN got his team selection completely wrong for Brum (I accept he was hampered by injuries), but Lafferty world have been a much better option than Naismith as lone striker. Two CRUCIAL games looming large and if we're to remain serious contenders for promotion places, then we really need to be picking up a minimum of 2 points.
I generally agree with this but the only nagging thought is that if you look at the table that season neither of the sides that got promoted automatically were even in the top 6 at that point. OK Borough were 7th on 16pts but Bournemouth were 14th on 12pts. There is a mighty long way to go and whilst we could be 5 pts behind Huddersfield if they win their 2 games and we lose both. The worst we could be would be 3 pts behind 2nd. So no reason to panick. I would hate to see us lose both, because then any confidence and momentum will be drained, but I don't think we will and think we'll maybe lose on Wednesday but bounce back with 3pts at Wolves. Bah!
And while this is very true the scary thing is we're 20% of the way through the season, having played 9 out of 46. If the table looks the same - or very similar after the next 9, there'll be some in the streets!
Maybe for some, but I shall save my dancing shoes until it is the same or similar after 46 games Bah!
Bloomin quiet on here today, I've ventured over to the Newcs board and they don't seem particularly confident. Their matchday thread puts KIO's efforts to shame! Bah!
Got any tweezers? I licketh mine spillage off ye olde trestle table and hath splynters in mine tongue
This is what you get for living in the warzone that is Cromer. I am fairly sure even Sheringham has tables these days that have been sanded and varnished so as to avoid such splinter related mishaps! Bah!
Fortunately, a truce has been declared. It started on the day all the sprogs went back to school in September Walks along the beach are a pleasurable experience once again
