Hello all and welcome back to another match day thread by Saintsfcfan. Saints have now won their past 4 games in all competitions, the diamond formation looking far more effective than in the early matches of the season.
Last time out Saints smashed West Ham 3-0 at their tax payers stadium in a game that really should have been 5/6-0. Charlie Austin is a man in form with 5 goals in 4 matches, so even with squad rotation you'd expect him to be in and around the first eleven.
This is Saints second outing in their first ever Europa League group stage, with confidence high after a 3-0 home win against Sparta Prague to seemingly kick-start the season. 2 goals from that man Austin and Jay Rodriguez gave Saints a memorable evening at St Marys and they will be looking to get six points from six against Hapoel Be'er Sheva. I'm going to be honest, I know absolutely nothing about this team aside from their famous 2-0 win at the San Siro against other Group K opponents Inter. This is not a team to be taken lightly, even if they are the bottom seed. The passionate home fans will create an intimidating atmosphere and Saints will need to be strong and alert to keep up their winning run. I mean surely they can't be worse than West Ham.

My line-up:
Forster
Martina Yoshida Van Dijk Targett
Romeu
Clasie JWP
Hesketh
Austin Long

Bench: McCarthy, Cedric, Fonte, Davis, Hojbjerg, Tadic, Redmond

Prediction: will be a tough game but in current form going for a close 2-0 win for Saints. Austin and Long.

COYR!

I'd imagine that'll be our team, but with Tadic for Hesketh.

A win for us, coupled with a draw between Inter and Prague, would not only put us one foot in the KO stages already, but also allow us to think about maybe winning the group.

I'm also not sure it's quite a diamond anymore. More a fluid 4-3-3 thingy.

In their CL games against Celtic they were stuffed 5-2 at Parkhead but nearly turned the tie around in the return by winning 2-0 at home. As you say not a team to be taken lightly especially after a great win in Milan.

Results aside I think overall the squad has looked strong from a fitness viewpoint.
This week brings the added pressure of travel to proceedings.
Will be interesting to see if those not involved still travel

Is this the game we should set up to park the bus? I must admit that I can't remember us ever doing that? I'm sure someone can and will tell us how horribly it went wrong?

saintsfcfan you have 2 more games to beat FLT on the clean sheet record. Forget Fraser...you could hold the not606 record soon ;)

FWIW, I think we'll do it 3-1 after going one down. BUT! as it's a saintsfcfan thread, probably be 3 or 2 nil :)

I believe he's on 4.... I had 6. He needs three to beat me, two only draws level...

Just saying :)

I've got Claude on speed dial (purely for insomnia help) but I'll let him know the importance of this match thread run.

Looking forward to this though reckon it will be a tough game. The thing is because we beat Sparta a draw would be a good result here.

Good luck to anyone going, stay safe!!
