ATTENTION turns back to the league this Saturday as Rangers welcome Birmingham City to Loftus Road for our Sky Bet Championship fixture.

The Blues find themselves in the Play-Off positions during this early stage of the season but are only five points ahead of the Hoops, despite the fact that we have failed to win any of our last three fixtures.

Managed by their former player Gary Rowett - the midlands club have mainly found life difficult in the Championship following their relegation in 2011. They were defeated in the Play-Off semi-final by Blackpool in 2012 but since then they have mainly had mid-table finishes and only narrowly avoided relegation in 2014.

They began this season with an uninspiring 0-0 draw with Cardiff, which was followed by a shock cup defeat to Oxford. But things have picked up in recent weeks with victories over Norwich, Fulham and the much fancied Sheffield Wednesday thanks to an injury time goal from Lukas Jutkiewicz.

Rowett has been steadily improving things since taking charge of Birmingham back in 2014. They are now seen as a defensively strong team highlighted by the fact that only Brentford have conceded less goals than them in the league this season.

They brought seven players in during the last summer transfer window including Ryan Shotton from Derby County and Che Adams from Sheffield United.

I asked sb_73 to give me a stadium pic for this thread and he kindly knocked this up in his lunch hour from his Lego set.

PRE MATCH TALK

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink: "There were many positives on Wednesday and I am confident we can build on those and get back to winning ways in front of our supporters, who were once again excellent against Sunderland.

“We are not panicking, we are not worrying. We are all together as a squad and as a group of men. We are all working hard to get to where we want to be. We are still improving and we will be competitive, I’ve no doubt about that.”

Gary Rowett: “It’s very difficult to judge from the outside. It would be remiss for me to suggest I know the inner workings. I still think they are in a little bit of transition, I am sure they will get there. They started the season very well, then the last three games they have not done so well. We will be facing a team fighting for their lives.”

Such a crucial match. Points are badly needed to stop the slide. Here's hoping for the crucial win.

Considering how we are playing at the moment, 9/5 on Birmingham to win is a great price.

I need some advice from you local lads. Quickest way from the Bush to Gatwick Airport?

Booked on a 19.00 hours flight out of Gatwick and just discovered there are no trains running into Victoria today and all trains for London are going via London Bridge or Thames link. The line from Clapham Junction to Shepherds Bush is also closed. There is a Thames link train from Bedford to Brighton which stops at St Pancras and Gatwick. I am figuring that might be the Quickest way? Anybody offer an alternative route that might be quicker? Cheers.

Not ideal but you get a discount the first time you use taxi apps like Uber or Karhoo. Karhoo is decent.

Bloody hell finglas how are you going to get from London to Gatwick by 19:00. That can't be done surely?
Get out of game by 5PM and that leaves you 2 hours. Don't you have check in as well? can't see you doing that

Whatever team we put out, Birmingham are a good side with an excellent manager. Can't honestly see us scoring more than one or keeping a clean sheet.

Best of luck to those going. I'm putting the £60 or so I would have spent on a bender in Shoreditch. Let's do brunch before Fulham.

Thanks ELLERS. Looks like I will have to leave the game 15 minutes early and get the Hammersmith & City line to Kings Cosss/St Pancras and then the Thames link. I only have hand luggage and my boarding card in hand so no check in necessary.

I have used www.cabmania.com on occasion to prebook a taxi. Various taxi firms will bid for your trip.

As Ellers said that sounds like mission impossible. Who the heck makes these stupid decisions?
