As I said, product awareness is a fundamental function of advertising.
Personally I've never used any of the comparison websites so I don't know how effective they are. Surely it comes down to price if that's what's being compared so although that might be good for the consumer it isn't really helping the sellers unless they're the cheapest?
It's price lead, but not completely price orientated, as the quality and depth of cover is also a consideration factor.

Funnily enough I got my house insurance renewal yesterday and I'll be using them today.

I'm not a fan of these sites, recently I needed car insurance for my son, many hours were spent on these sites with the cheapest quote being around £1200

I got sick of searching so called my insurance company who confirmed the online price I had found for their company, she then helped me adjust everything and gave me a quote for £769

Exactly why I don't use them. Talking to them and negotiating works better. Not everyone has time, but it works.

If I were to use a comparison site I would suggest Money saving expert, they seem to focus on saving money.

well done. thats a skill thats needs to be taught and learned.

The modern world has people who can't change a plug and would have no idea how to pick up a phone and do this.

I'd have saved myself a lot of time if I'd gone straight there.

TBF it was all down to the person at Admiral she guided me through it. It's quite strange as to what affects insurance especially for a young driver.

So I was going low milage she increased the milage and the quote went down.
I was to be added as a named driver but hadn't though of also adding Mrs luv as a named driver as well, this brought it down.
Black box added and of course this brought it down.
Added the car to a multi car policy along with mine, this brought it down.

The person on the phone was just trying different options to see if they worked and as you can see they certainly did. There was more but I've forgotten.

Yes but had you done that you always think would I have got it cheaper elsewhere?

So you feel the need to go on these to see the different offers, it is just time consuming

My renewal came through and I was just going to pay (car ins) but my wife sorted and we payed nearly half, with breakdown cover!

Im a lazy twat though

It is annoying how these comp[anies also dont look after long term customers, I understand offering deals to get new custom but more reward should also go to those with them long term

Interesting... so driving MORE actually made it cheaper, and two named drivers made it cheaper.. which is funny... that certainly is good sale perosn there and builds loyalty to company.

but you had to do the ringing.

It was a superb call she went out of her way to make it cheaper. I'm going to change my life insurance to them as a result of the service over the years.

I always use the site, get the cheapest quote then ring my existing insurance company, tell them I've been quoted X amount elsewhere and ask if they can better it. Usually they fumble around for 5 mins then say yeah we can do it £20 cheaper despite their online bit saying )50 more.

The thing about comparison sites is they give you a real quick overview of 100s of sites in 5 minutes ao you don't have to go online or phone then all up individually. Get the best 3-4 then ring them up and negotiate that way. Always get a better deal then

some peopel must be buying right of the sites though... cos if not they'd be out of business in a hot second.

My view is be thankful whoever taught you this taught you well.
