Yes I know he is Spanish but he was born and raised in South America. "Who" I hear you ask, "Diego Costa" is the reply, but wait, he has a rival, another assassin, of the latino type, he is amongst us. I give you Sergio Aguero that low down son of a yeti catchers footprint is trying to steal the thunder from our own dirty dude, but as of yet he has not reached the level of dastardliness even though an elbow to the (neck) direction of the head, that seems to have gone un-noticed by some, ( Ref 5 yards away + many thous,,,nay, millions on telly) is as far removed from football as is logic to an Arsenal fan. Don't get me wrong here, I am not trying to trivialise or condone elbows and head butts, or anything of that nature but for sheer Cold blooded Psychoness you cant beat a miss timed challenge for the ball.

He's got away with it so far. Refs have been kind for a change, but senior Conte needs to remind him he won't get away with it forever. I'd hate to see him lose his passion, but it's vital he doesn't spend half the season suspended!

Don't worry, as I have said on another thread he is a very clever player. He knows how far to push it and how to make the opposition lose concentration, when he gets to the limit he backs off and starts his proper work, job done.

Jurgen Klopp has warned Liverpool they must not allow in-form Chelsea striker Diego Costa to bully them at Stamford Bridge.
The Anfield boss says the Reds’ backline must be combative against the fiery Spain international, who has scored four league goals already this season.
Centre-back Dejan Lovren, who missed the win over Leicester City due to a head injury, is expected to return to the Liverpool team on Friday night alongside Joel Matip.
“Being aggressive is important against Costa,” Klopp said.
“If you are in a friendly game mood then you have no chance.
“He is a real warrior on the pitch. He uses his body all the time – that is his quality. World class.
“He was nearly unstoppable against Swansea. He is strong, no doubt.”

Klopp insists trying to provoke Costa won’t be part of his gameplan in the capital.
“It is not part of our preparation,” Klopp added.
“I never said in my life to a team: ‘he’s always close to a red card, do whatever you can so that he gets it’.
“Antonio (Conte) has already created a good relationship with him so he is completely different.
“He is in good shape. He is aggressive yes, but I didn’t see until now challenges where you could say it should have been a red card. I thought against Swansea it was more a problem for the two defenders.
“There will be hard challenges, but it is not about having a one-on-one fight the whole 90 minutes and then saying: ‘I took him out of the game’.
“Taking Diego out of the game makes sense but even then our players can create moments so there are a lot more things to do than only think about Diego Costa.”

Doesn't really explain getting away with several blatant yellow card offences while on a booking only a few games into the season. Nothing to do with being clever IMO.

Don't agree with the West Ham one tbh.
Was an attempt to get the ball and the keeper shifted the ball out of the way and left his foot where the ball was.
Would be inhuman reactions to be able to adjust your tackle in 0.00001 seconds in order to miss the keeper outstretched foot.

The Watford dive was indefensible though <laugh>

I think we'll be waiting a while to see another player connect with a tackle that far away from the ball and that high up someone's leg and avoid a booking, but I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that one. Jason Cundy's argument was "the ball was there to be won" as if that isn't the case with other tackles.

Well I feel that genuine attempts to win the ball should never lead to a booking.
Tackling is part of the game, sometimes you will miss if the player changes direction or shifts the ball. Its not cheating is it? Its not something done willfully.
If its a cynical tackle to stop a player who has snuck past your defence from peeling away, and you never intended to get the ball, just bring the player down, then thats cheating, hence you should be booked.
The player with the ball is trying to stop the tackler from winning the ball and will do what he must to stop that happening
There are FAR to many bookings for what is erroneously labelled as "mistimed tackles". No it's not mistimed, he meant to tackle when he did, just that through the actions of the opposing player, the tackle was not successful, and sometimes some skin will be bruised along the way. Obviously if its unnecessarily violent or reckless (aka Roy Keane on Haaland), then it needs to be punished.

That looks both mistimed and reckless to me.

In real time it would have been nigh on impossible for Costa to pull out of that tackle once the keeper shifted the ball and the position of his leg.

Just feel this game has become too pussified sometimes.
20 years ago no one would have looked twice at that tackle.

It's neither, he was trying to kick the ball into the net (score), the keeper got it first. Great picture though, just shows how you can make anything look shocking if you want to <ok>

The still at least shows how far the ball was from Adrian by the time Costa got there. I think that would have been a bad tackle in any era. I agree the game is too soft but, for me, there's a middle ground and that challenge was genuinely dangerous. Even if he'd got there at the right time he's going over the ball.

you make some decent points, however your obsession with anything Chelsea is incredible.

I don't see you complain anything Spurs, Goons or West Ham. They don't get away with anything apparently?

I wouldn't expect you to follow my every move but I similarly took umbrage with a United fan during the City game who defended everything their players did and constantly saw them as the victim.

Costa is quite a unique case though in this country. I don't think there's anyone who gets away with what he does.
 
Stop the video at 0:21 just as Adrian is kicking the ball away. Costa has already committed to the challenge, would take ridiculously inhuman reflexes to pull out of the tackle at that point.
Believe me, I am the last person to normally defend Costa, I am constantly berating him for the sly digs, elbows and MMA style type of play.
But I would be saying the same thing if this were any other play, even a QPR player. There was no intent in that tackle to hurt or injure Adrian, that was a genuine attempt to win a ball that he had every right to go for.
