Of course players/agents get a say in the rate, it is in the players favour to have a release clause so the club cant price him out of a move.
£40m is a good price for a top class player now so that wouldn't be a block on him getting a move if he is good enough.

Everyone gets a say sure.. they don't have to sign do they....

Release clause are not to just let a club roll over... despite what Leicester gave kante.... some of them are absolutely massive.

If he's good enough yeah 40mil would not put off city etc, but if I were him I'd not be agreed g to it for 50k a week more for 12 months

very unlikely that a £40m buyout clause would be triggered in jan particularly by a club he fancies moving to

Depends on release clause doesn't it... if he signs a new deal would it be.. 40mil? Do we think players get to set rates too?

Put yourself in clubs shoes.

Lose him this summer for £10m while paying him £20k a week.
Lose him summer after for 0 while paying him 20k a week.
Or, say to him, we'll give you a new contract worth 40k a week with a new release clause that you can go to a foreign club for £20m which isn't totally unreasonable price for a young talented prospect with what will be 3 years league experience.

He gets 100% pay rise, they get 100% more in transfer fee, everyones happy. No one's saying the release clause will be £50m and he's pricing himself out a move. Like the Suarez case, he got a pay rise, we got a release clause which met his true value, everyone's a winner (apart from we lost WC player and replaced him with Balotelli of course).

I've utterly schooled ibwt on this one so it is over.

Dahoud would be mad to sign a deal...

Apart from you clearly haven't and there is no reason why both club & player can't benefit from him signing a new deal with caveat that he can go in the summer for double the price for example <doh>

your reasoning is questionable

Dahoud, if he fancies himself as a guy who can mix it at a top club doesn't need to tie himself to the munchers and should be thinking how to maximise his long term prospects.

Pulisic is doing the same with dortmund. He's saying to them hey, you just put gotze in my position so...... no way.... at 17 that's prob a bit rich like.

But there is a big element of you gave to conduct yourself utterly professionally while you look out for yourself too.

As I said sterling for me went out of his way to prove he didn't want to play for us including going missing, missing chances and general acting the cock.

All any club can ask of any player is honour the contact and play your best at all times until the day that offer comes in. Players are not assets they are contracted staff that's all... and if they don't want to sign up again it's their choice.

If you however stop performing you are a cock...

Moshiri says they turned down Sissoko because they are a family and didn't want to endanger McCarthy's position <laugh> <laugh> <laugh>

[HASHTAG]#fraud[/HASHTAG] status [HASHTAG]#confirmed[/HASHTAG]

This is going to be a fun few years as @Tobes watches his dreams crumble, then it will get kinda sad, and then they'll kick him out and can start rebuilding

lots of words but adds up to very little
the signing of a new improved contract with a realistic release clause is quite normal as it often suits both parties

PS not sure why you consider Munchengladbach to be such a small team

And the Club can offer what they like. I've merely stated my view of what the player himself should do. As I said he would be nuts to sign that.

And as I said suarez found out that shock real and barca didn't want him after his biting and so signed. He was lucky 31 goals convinced barca that irrespective of his third act of lunacy they just had to have him... in that case suarez was faced with a bad clause that failed to get him out and the club's he wanted not being interested, so it was in his interests to take the pay hike and fix the clause too...

Dahoud holds the cards... why on earth would he surrender them for a very short term gain.... 10mil in summer can't be turned down... he's got a great situation. Just go play and make yourself highly sought after. Simple in my view.

The munchers have left it too late that's all.

MITO, just admit defeat and we'll move on, it's all good, won't hold it against you going forward <ok>

Utterly schooled you and you are raging.

Fans don't like the cold hard reality of football as business and players doing this.. just admit it and move on.

I've trashed every example you came up with...

If it suits both parties... as I've said why on earth would it suit this kid when he's got the perfect set up for next year and every club in Europe to go to....

Sign what this lot are suggesting and the list drops to 2/3 clubs which would be mad.

10mil move next summer and a massive pay packet sounds pretty sweet to me.

Andy ward would say so too... <whistle>

He's only young and doesn't realise that back in the day (when Liverpool were good) gladbach virtually owned the Bundesliga and were a force in Europe.

Back in the day even Man Utd were a force in Eur--actually no, they never were
