Has he stated exact incidences- quotes dates/times? Easy to deny as bullshit if he hasn't
Even if what he is saying is correct, I'm not actually against it. If a little white lie resulted in a player being punished for a wrong they committed on the pitch, then I am all for that - as opposed to that player getting away with it, on a stupid technicality that because the referee saw it and made the wrong decision, the player can't be retrospectively punished.
Or selling a story to the mirror for a nice paydayPretty much saying what alot of us suspected ?

I've read Halsey's book and it has some very interesting accusations in it. He attacked Mike Riley and Graham Poll amongst others. I'm not saying I believe all of it but I certainly believe that there were, and still are, some right ****s in the PGMOL. I certainly think some people put their personal agendas ahead of the game. This isn't just from the book either. I do have contacts within the refereeing world who have access to the upper reaches of refereeing and am really pissed off with some stuff I've heard.
Blowing more than whistles?Just to add my own experience from a few years ago. The gossip, factions and jealousy in referee world make your office politics look like primary school.
The promotion system is surprisingly meritocratic but depended on getting the right assessments at the right time, meaning newer/younger refs had the opportunity to go further if they were good (and got their timings right). This is not popular. But the sexism was worse than the ageism. I heard unrepeatable gossip about what certain younger and/or female refs had done or who they knew. In short everything was a conspiracy theory.
A few years ago, and this tale was in it.
There was a very pathetic row between him and Graham Poll over it: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2013/oct/08/graham-poll-attacks-mark-halsey-referees-betrayal
