Even though he's 85 now, he's still trying to chat my missus up, and all the women with us.

Most likely to be heard these days saying : 'If I was 50 years younger, I'd be riding her Western style !'

Reverse Cowgirl ?

Good for him!

The day you stop looking is the day they might as well nail the lid down!...

I don't know that South of France/Northern Spain area that well, but I do know that you're never too old to surf !

My friend Pete 'the Yank' is 85 this year. He still surfs, although he limits himself to summer in the UK and spends the Spring/Winter in Fuerteventura. Proper character with a life straight out of film. He grew up in Florida, then moved to Texas and worked on a ranch honing his horse skills and competing in Western comps. Then spent many years teaching Hollywood stars how to ride. He has so many stories to tell - dinner with Telly Savalas, getting drunk with Stephanie Beacham... he was (and still is) such a ladies man <laugh> He tries to chat up my missus every time we see him. Top bloke and still as stoked as he was 60 years ago !

It's not so much my age as having three young kids and a golf obsession.

There aren't enough days in the week. Especially weekend days.

I was never any good anyway, although I did enjoy it.

I live in a decent surf area, Gower near Swansea. Also happens to be a decent golf area!

I've surfed at Rhossili bay a few times. My brother lives in Cardiff, so I try and get out to the Mumbles when I'm up there. Had my old Volvo broken into in the car park at Three cliffs a few years back, ****ing scallies nicked an ounce of my best weed and my GF's trainers and sleeping bag. Had to drive back to London with the driver side window popped out, very noisy <laugh>

Damn straight :)

This is Pete, in March this year at a local haunt of ours. Still got it <laugh>

Good to see! And good to see that he keeps himself in good shape too.

He's got a lot of years, even on an old fart, like me, but I'm at the gym 4-5 days a week and I'm still very active.

Use it or lose it!....

I'll be looking down on three cliffs tomorrow morning. From the golf course. Where I play is above it, obviously!

Mumbles is more or less where I live, although I'm not right in the middle of it. Langland is my local beach.

It's twenty years since I was properly into surfing. Did you used to go to Rhossili or was it Llangennith? Same beach technically but the Llangennith end is the more surf friendly. Campsite and pub etc.

Yep, I'm in my 40's and I like to keep myself fit. Surfing, Cycling, Swimming. But Pete the Yank is an inspiration. He's out running 5-8k every day at 85 years old. Still as bright as a button, sharp as a knife. He doesn't surf as hard as he used to, but he's still out there in the line up, biggest grin and having the most fun.

His ability to end up with two hot birds on his shoulder wherever we go, is ****ing legendary. He doesn't get any action with them these days, but he has a lifetime of intercontinental liaisons. Hollywood stars, Air Stewardesses, Innocent Surf chicks ... If you ever need any pick up tips, he's your man <laugh>

Thanks, but I think the missus might object!

Besides, I'm quite happy on that score!...

Yep Llangennith, near Hillend campsite. We used to walk up to a little cafe on the cliff at the south end of Rhossili, I can't remember the name ? I've surfed a few of the reefs around Porthcawl (My brother lives in Rhoose) but the water quality around there is sketchy ! I'm used to the crystal clear waters of West Cornwall, and surfing in brown silt run off is a bit worrying, no matter how much you try not to swallow any ....

It's ok now, I was swimming at Pobbles , which is round the three cliffs from three cliffs, on bank holiday Monday and it was as clean as France.

Can't speak for Porthcawl though. We used to surf there, Rest Bay, and it was a bit brown. Close to the steel works. Still, twenty years on it could be ok.

Hill End campsite is now £30(ish) a night for a tent, no ****. Costs a bomb. Restaurant on site, the lot.

I used to kip in the boot of my Renault there. They still charged me for that mind!

You must have been in the Kings Head?

Yep I know the Kings Head, right next to PJ's surf shop. I know all about sleeping in the boot of old estate cars and cheap hatchbacks <laugh> Most of the places we used to go to surf all across Cornwall, Devon, Wales had those low height barriers that stopped vans getting into the car parks to try and stop people kipping overnight. When I lived in London, I used to buy a cheap estate out of Auto trader, bomb out West for a few days for surf and drinking and then limp back to London a few days later and sell the car, usually for at least what I'd paid for it. Free surf trip :)

Ah! Now in my day we had a 30cwt Transit that we lived and slept in, whilst down there. Parked it wherever we could. Rules were, if somebody got lucky the rest had to go and kip on the beach, or wherever.

Just back fron having a nice dinner in the town. Still 32C. You can tell it's international week because it is Saturday night and all the talk is about surfing, not football. As it is going to be an anticipated 44C here on Monday we are going down to El Palmar where it will be only 35. Who knows, once I see the guys out on their boards I might just see if I've still got it. If you don' hear from me after Monday it the attempt may have finished me off..

@PISKIE posted this

"HIAG will be up for it as he'll want to make amends for welching on this bet.

So that's HIAG v ?

@Skylarker maybe ?"

I'll do it. Not sure what it is, but I'll do it.
