Rodgers had Ibe, Sterling, Flannagan (in 1 season iirc) - that's just off the top of my head as I'm sure there were more. 1 in 5.5 seasons is piss poor
Pretty sure he was managing in the PL before then If it makes you feel a little more secure that it took Jose 5.5 years then it's good for you
Poor comeback Face the facts mate. Jose doesn't do kids. He buys his success and couldn't train a kid to save his life!
Those were just off the top of my head mate, there are plenty more. Wengers actually had.. Gnabry, Chamberlain, Bellerin, Iwobi in the last few years. Wilshere would also fit into that '5.5 year' period. Most managers will bring though a talented youngster in the hope they will develop into something Special. Mourinho doesn't care about the future of the Club - it's all about himself. You will work that out eventually.
In the first 5.5 years of their PL management? You seem oblivious to the fact that Jose has only had 2 short stints at Chelsea (years apart) when he came in and was tasked to win the PL asap. Not the best circumstances to introduce kids. He has now come to United where we already have kids good enough for the PL and hey presto, one scores within Jose's first 3 games. Not rocket surgery is it
You do know it is the youth team coach who normally trains the kids don't you? The manager is informed when the youth coach thinks they are ready to step up and then the manager makes a decision to play them or not.
Lol rival fans clinging onto anything so they can dis the manager and team.... They must be gutted we started so well so they can't do Moyes/LVG comparisons
I'm not really 'dissing' him. I said he's an excellent tactician. I'm just pointing out a downside. (God knows Wenger has plenty himself)
So what are your views on his assertion that he has brought 49 youth players through to first teams in 15 years of management?
Some managers actually pay lots of notice to the youth team and make a joint decision, just a thought
But not what we're discussing Bod! It sometimes rains and it sometimes snows, that's another thought.
Not a big fan of Maureen but he's brought in to get success, not sure why everyone's harping on about youth players. If the club really cared about their youth, then they would put it in his contract to develop them on the pitch. They obviously don't care enough to do it, hence why he plays senior players most of the time.
Ha not really. We all know Moureen wins trophies. We all know he's a good tactician. Its just funny now he's been at Utd for 5 mins and there's a Utd fans unwilling to admit the guy has any faults. He's interested in short term success only. This is why he's not bothered about splashing the cash and also not bothered about bringing through the youth players. But he's massively successful. Its all swings and roundabouts and I'm sure most clubs know exactly what they are getting when they hire the guy,
Agreed, he is what he is. He's brought in to get instant success. He probably sets his stall out to do around 3 years and move on to the next project, Guardiola does the exactly same thing, but plays a more pleasing style of football. Wenger is a dying breed and once he goes, we might enter the managerial merry-go-round. At least it keeps things fresh instead of the constant complaining we get now.
You do know that the youth team only manages the youth teams and that it is the manager who decides who plays in the senior teams and who makes the grade or who should be loaned out or sold? Which is kind of the point here isn't it?
No idea where to put this - you guys need a pub thread - but there is a charity match on ITV4 featuring a lot of your ex players in an Arsenal legends team.
Pires,Ljungberg,Kanu and Gilberto Silva have all been quality, that fourth goal brought back too many memories from the unbeaten season. Pires was such an amazing footballer, so silky.
