Southampton. Won't be letting Isgrove go now. New coach likes him. [HASHTAG]#moveon[/HASHTAG]

Nailed on he's off to Barnsley on loan then, again. Another youngster who just isn't going to make the step up to Premier Football. Unless we are building a squad for the Championship?

Whether they will be any good, even if they stay fit, is an even bigger question! :)
Certainly with Rodriguez. He hasn't played regularly for two seasons now, it is anyone's guess what sort of level he will come back at. If we get the same player we had before his injury then this season could go very differently to how many seem to expect!

In all honesty what is the required players key attribute needed to play in a diamond formation rather than a 4-2-3-1. I am not being being sarcastic, I genuinely don't know

No idea. Probably you would need a world class DM, two imposing CMs, a ball-carrying monster of a creative midfielder at the tip, amd two mobile goal-scoring CFs who can hold up the ball and make devastatitng runs. Otherwise, you could probably get the same results from our players in a 4-2-3-1...

I know it's not long enough to be able to properly judge, but he looked sharp on Saturday when he came on. And I think id rather him and his natural goal scoring ability up front than Redmond

Not sure anyone does <laugh>

That may or may not include players and coaching staff.

Also I'm not sure he is playing the traditional diamond. It could be that some players maybe not playing it correctly, or Puel has another idea and is instructing the players slightly different. Just not sure they are playing the known diamond formation.....'suppose it could just be me.........just confused.

We have the players. I think people are just freaking out.

IMO, we had no real AMC last year. And only two DMC (and now one is gone). Clasie, JWP, Davis, Hojbjerg are all more traditional box-to-box types.

We really only had 2 wingers last year. Mane and Tadic. And Mane is gone. And I feel like Tadic can play AMC, and he had a couple good games there last year.

So... I don't really get it. We were playing MC's as DMC and AMC. We were sticking strikers on the wing. We also went from 4-2-3-1 to 5-2-3 and no one fell apart. We actually played pretty well.

But this year, the formation has two MC's and no wings so everyone other than Redmond and possibly Tadic can play in a position that is natural to them. Not sure why we wouldn't be able to play it.

Very early days as you say. I think we will only really be able to tell after a decent run of starts.
I mean, even if hes lost some pace, he's a natural goal scorer. Defoe has lost a lot of pace but still knows how to put the ball in the net.

Playing in a position natural to you is fine, if the system also suits the way you play. Our defence has looked incredibly vulnerable in this system as we don't have the quality of fullbacks needed to push up and cover back. Our DM position looks vulnerable without a partner (all our DM type players look so good as a pair). Our strikers don't suit the system at all. Tadic was woeful against Sunderland and that reminds us how inconsistent he is. Inconsistent is okay at left wing, but not in the pivotal number 10 position. Obviously it could all work out, but it doesn't feel right to a lot of us!

The one thing JRod, One Goal, never was was a natiral goalscorer. He got a lot better through hard work, coaching and sheer physicality...

Jay's whole thing was pace. He just ran at defenders that then panicked. Jay isn't a natural goal scorer, so it will be interesting to see how he adapts.

I'd say he was, scored a whole load in the championship in his younger years and was able to score in the prem aswell.

74 career goals vs Redmond's 19

But we never played two pure defensive midfielders for the most part. We had Wanyama/Romeu playing the same role the DMC plays in a diamond. And Clasie was more of a defense-oriented MC... which also fits in a diamond and in fact we could have two of them if we chose.

We didn't have a true AMC last year, either. We used Davis there, and even though he didn't play it in quite the traditional manner, we still won with him. We could use him there again. But if not, we just got Boufal.

How are our strikers not suited for a diamond? They're strikers, all they have to do is what strikers normally do.

We haven't played well, I'm not arguing that. I'm just dubious that the problem is that the players can't play the formation. Perhaps Puel can't coach the formation. But the formation itself shouldn't be a problem.
