Someone suggested on another thread that Marshall is probably City's greatest keeper, which got me thinking.

The keepers during my formative years watching the Bluebirds were Fred Davies, Frank Parsons, Jim Eadie, Bill Irwin and Ron Healey.

    Fred Davies
    1961-1968 Wolves 156 apps
    1968-1970 Cardiff 99 apps
    1970 - 1974 Bournemouth 134 apps
Later joined the coaching staff down the Vetch, and went on to manage Shrewsbury

    Frank Parsons
    1965 - 1970 Palace 4 apps
    1970 - 1974 Cardiff 17 apps
    1974 Fulham 0 apps
    1974 - 1975 Reading 1 apps
Later moved on to Slough and scored the winning goal in a FA Cup tie in 1983 !

    Jim Eadie
    1965 -1967 Rangers 0 apps
    1967-1968 Dumbarton 5 apps
    1968-1969 Kirkintilloch ? apps
    1969-1973 Cardiff 43 apps
    1973-1977 Bristol Rovers 183 apps
Nicknamed the 'flying pig' by the Rovers fans

    Bill Irwin
    1967-1971 Bangor, (N Ireland) ? apps
    1971-1978 Cardiff 180 apps
    1978-1980 Washington Diplomats 73 apps
Won the BBC Save of the Season award in 1972 in FA Cup defeat to Leeds
First ever City keeper to be sent off - playing against Bangor in the Welsh Cup final
First choice keeper until 1974 when ousted by Ron Healy
Played for Cardiff's promotion winning team in 1975-76 season

    Ron Healey
    1970-1974 Manchester City 30 apps
    1974-1982 Cardiff 216 apps
Played for Cardiff's promotion winning team in 1975-76 season
Also made 2 appearances for the Republic of Ireland
    Credited with discovering Andy Dibble

    David Marshall
    2002-2007 Celtic 50 apps
    2006-2009 Norwich 105 apps
    2009-2016 Cardiff 276 apps
Played for Cardiff's Championship winning team 2012-2013
    League Cup Runner Up 2011-12
    Scotlands Number One

Marshall has won greater 'honours' and made more appearances for club and country, but I have a fondness for those early 1970's when twice we came close to promotion from the old Division Two, were relegated and fought our way back with that fantastic promotion from Division Three in 1975-76.

Cardiff's keepers, whoever you are - I salute you !

Ron Healy and Bill Irwin in the squad at the same time. Both internationals. They were there when I started following the bluebirds.

I can't believe that Frank Parsons played 17 games for us. He shouldn't have played 17 minutes.

Marshie was the best keeper I've ever seen during my 20 years supporting the club. Also admired Neil Alexander.

    Good call on Alexander. <ok>

Not quite as good as Marshie, but one of the better keepers we have had. Compared to BT's early bromances, probably only Irwin and maybe Healey stand any comparison.

I always remember singing to Gavin Ward. Cant actually remember how good he was. Did he get a move to Leicester in the top flight or something?

    Everyones entitled to their opinion.

But no hes not - not even close.

Marshall I reckon was worth 10 points in our promotion season and similar in the PL.

I cant recall a single game where I thought Heaton got us the points.

    Average keeper in my opinion.

Alexander - very good shot stopper (not as good as Marshie) very dodgy on crosses and not the bravest.

I could be wrong but it seems to me Marshal showed a lot of loyalty to Cardiff as he leaned on the fence and admired the grass . But you guys would know better .
Just seemed he was very committed to Cardiff , loyalty and commitment are the foundation to a good career and how you steer that career .
Again , all the best to Marshal , I've always held him in high regard ......and good luck gents in your dark horse ride to the playoffs .

We definitely aren't dark horses. It's a fight to stay up in a lot of our opinions. Thanks for your sentiments all the same.

Marshall, IMO, is the best keeper we have had. Big thanks for the service and all the best...
