Question is can he score 15 - 20+ goals regularly a season for us? We don't want another RVW we want a proven goalscorer like Holty or Hucks when they were in their prime
He hasn't been a proven scorer so far. He seems to be a kind of flair, creative technical striker, who runs into the channels and brings players into play. He's not a target man or a poacher or anything. It looks like we still need cover for Cam. Definitely if Lafferty's now leaving as well.
I'm not sure when we signed Holty he was exactly being seen as any sort of guarantee, pretty chequered career before us. And Hucks only made it to 14 and then only breached double figures again with 5 cup goals in one season. I don't care if Oliveira only scores 8, as long as Pritchard, Josh et al can then all weigh in with ~10 each that he has help facilitate. bah!
9 goals in 24 starts for Forest seems reasonable for me. Much prefer him to McCormack, who has only managed to score 1 goal in 6 games for Villa.
After further thought, I’m still optimistic about Nelson Oliveira but, in truth we don’t know how it will turn out. I wasn’t keen on either McCormack or Kodija, who between them have 1 goal from 10 matches this season. It's not that they are bad players, but because they wouldn’t fit comfortably into City’s style of play. McCormack is a second striker who played behind Dembele at Fulham and now plays behind Gestede, not disimilar to Hooper in that regard, except that he’s going on 31 now and therefore a short-term option at £12m+. Kodija would be a better fit, but he played on the left for Bristol City and that’s a position we have well covered considering the outlay would have been at least £15m. Oliveira, on the other hand, offers a different option to Jerome as the sole striker and is well suited for City as his game involves holding the ball up and then either scoring himself or bringing our AMs into scoring positions. Much more the way AN wants to play and at £5m, could turn out to be a very shrewd signing (or not). Much will depend on how he fits in and the goals he will contribute, but his record at Forest suggests that he could at least do that well or better for us.
