Articles and talk is bubbling up about this one. Here's some info on the Striker. http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/spo.../birmingham-city-scouting-report-you-11585655
For a lad who has been called up and played for pretty much all Portugal National team levels, He doesn't look like he's scored all that many goals at the clubs he's been to. http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nelson-oliveira/leistungsdaten/spieler/72768
Doesn't look like the target man/solo striker AN has been looking for, looking at the strengths and weaknesses. https://www.whoscored.com/Players/68855
I found these Forest fans views on Oliveira on the Pinkun board: "Oh he's not the same type of striker as Britt, he's not a pure Predator - I think he's better than that. He's more of an all round striker who can contribute far more than just goals, but given enough chances and he clearly has the talent to bury them. I don't take too much from his previous record as he barely played for Swansea and when he did it was often as a sub in stoppage time. Prior to that well who knows, though his record for Rennes was alright. I've never bought the idea that he isn't a goal scorer, or at least can't be, we've just not created that many chances for him and if we do, I believe he can score plenty. Not as many as a poacher like Britt but he doesn't have to be Britt or Jordan Rhodes - he has enough to his own game that can offer us a lot. Interestingly, he's only scored two less goals than Jordan Rhodes so far this season. He has a lot of talent and hopefully he can continue to build on it. Would try and do almost whatever we can to convince him to join the club on a permanent next year. Got so many players on high wages that just don't contribute enough and in comes Nelson looking fully fit, working his ** of and burying chances when they come. Genuinely think he's too good for us and would have far more goals if we created more chances. I'm surprised he has 8 already given we don't score more than 1 a game usually and he doesn't always play.
I fear this is an awful lot of hope and faith put into the ever-crap HITC, who seem to be the originators of this story.
Haha. It's just a bit of gossip to talk about. I've seen it from a few different sources. Who knows, need to wait and see.
Very true, DH. I'm one of the biggest doubters of HITC and I don't assume that this will happen by any means, but it is the latest rumour and we have to decide whether we'd like that to happen or not. On balance, I like the idea and hope it happens.
Is this still not over the line?! I thought this would have been wrapped up before I got home this weekend. Norwich, you have about 4 hours!!
Well I'm home and no confirmation. AN out!! Just got back from the airport, I have no idea how. Iv never seen my eyes so bloodshot and sore from tiredness. On the plane, I couldn't even think about the drive home. Was totally dreading it.
Haven't seen a link posted but AN on Nelson: “We have been chasing strikers for so long and all the bits we have seen and research we have done suggest he is going to be good. Let’s hope he lives up to that,” said Neil. “If you want to try and get promoted then signing players like Sergi Canos, Alex Pritchard and Oliveira people should look at that as good business. “He has had a few loans and not been able to establish himself in one place. He needs to find a home and we are hoping that is going to be the case here. Swansea took him so they obviously felt he could do a job in the Premier League. To play for a club like Benfica and his country suggests there is something to work with. We have to give him the right environment to show what he can do. He is not just a big lump to stand in the box. He is a modern-day number nine. He is strong physically, he can run a channel and get him high up the pitch he has magic in his feet in and around the box. He has goals in him. I wouldn’t see this is the final piece in the jigsaw, he is one piece but we hope to have a few more to add before the end of the window.”
Strange one isn't it. Very stupid thing to say. He's set himself up for a fall again, like he did when he kept saying he will sign a Striker very soon. A month or 2 ago. I think most of us would have been very happy if we bought 1 more in, another striker. Now, if we bring in one striker, fans have another reason to moan and feel let down by the transfer team.
