Some tweets from SLP Journo: ''Rob Elliot might be saying he wants to stay at #cafc but told that towards end of last season said he wanted a move to Champ or Prem club... ...and that wage demands for new deal when there was no bid would not have looked out of place in Premier League. Perfectly his right to do that but sounds like Elliot has been very badly advised.'' Few days late (), but it's a subject which is a sore point for me because of all the bs Rob is telling the fans. Needs to stop mucking the club around- either sign or hand in transfer request. Playing some very odd games...
It is leaving a very sour taste in the mouth. Very unfortunate indeed that it has turned out the way that it has. But we can only hope that it is resolved soon, but I fear that CP has already shown his hand by signing Hamer.
Super, what makes you think that what the SLP journo has said is true? It could be made-up nonsense or he could have been misinformed, no point condemning Elliot due to a few rumours flying around. He's Charlton through and through, and the general respect he has shown to the club and to the fans makes me believe there's far more to this story than meets the eye. I'll wait til I hear his side of events before I start pointing fingers.
Because it was what I was told several days ago and mentioned on here. This is from people who have nurtured Rob and are concerned by what's going on. We will obviously disagree on this subject as we have both been vocal from opposite sides. I just wish the club would come out and tell all what's really going on. Think the only reason why they haven't is because they still have a lot of respect for RE. Maybe a bit too much IMO.
Yes time to toe the line or go, just because he's a Charlton fan or through and through whatever, how over-rated is that, doesn't put him on a pedestal above the club or team. Good luck to Hamer and Sullivan.
Fair enough Super I just feel a lot more trust for a player who spent his whole life supporting Charlton, has a good relationship with fans and even took a wage cut after his initial pro contract, rather than some journalists I've never met. Clearly however there is something dodgy going on, and a small part of me is saying rather loudly that your right Super, I too just wish the club and Rob Elliot both tell us fans the truth.
All players want to play at the highest level possible. If big clubs are interested in him, then I don't blame Rob for wanting to leave (irrespective of Rob being a Charlton fan). A healthy transfer fee could represent good business for Charlton. Particularly, as I don't rate him at League 1 level. Would be interested to see how Rob gets on in Championship or higher. I really don't think he would be up to it.
Thats it WWOCB- I just want you guys to hear the truth and for some transparency to be shown- by both CAFC and Elliot. He is a fan, remember him sitting in the stands for many games and joining in with us.. but on this I feel he is letting a lot of his loyal supporters down and feeding information through which isn't necessarily true, showing disrespect for the club in the process. Doesn't sit well with me.
| think he'd struggle, although he did keep us in many games last season with some good reaction saves, he also cost us some.
Redflag, I don't remember him costing us a single game, but he's kept us in so many games over the past 3 seasons. He's far less inconsistent than everybody makes out, and though his kicking needs improving (and some would say his weight) he's a very good keeper for this league. As for him doing a job in the Championship, I think he could, afterall he was named first choice over Nicky Weaver and did very well in the Championship for us.
Nope. Hamer will be number one with Suli on bench. That said, I'd like to see Suli take his place between the sticks- earned it from the end of last season.
Interesting comments from CP regarding the Elliot saga. He says that Rob chose number 44 himself, despite the gaps in much lower squad numbers. He is well within his right to choose this number, but a part of me feels it's bad attitude on his part. Also, interesting that Powell refers to him as 'my keeper', could we be in for a shock on Saturday and see Robbo between the sticks?
He did cost us some games particularly from free kicks and corners, sometimes I think he's terribly over-rated.
It is a bad attitude. When questioned about it Elliot said he had no idea about the numbers, then CP says he chose it himself? Never known/seen CP as a liar..
Its all very confusing. The comment that Robbie is overated I think the opposite i`d say he`s very underated to be honest. Also I know being charlton through and through doesnt give him the right to start every game ect..BUT I love home grown players in our team,if possible i`d have 11 of em obviously impossible but you do have an affinity with your own. Rob Elliott would hate palace as much as me...Hamer ( nothing against him ) for example couldnt careless about them....maybe very childish BUT its what footballs about passion rivalries identity. It looks as if he may be going but I dont think CP has had anything to do with it. Robbie is his favorite without a doubt. I reckon those above CP have decided this told CP and he has said if thats the case he needs another keeper.
I think Powell has actually got this one right for a change and is putting club before player. Elliott has another year left on his contract so can walk away next year with the club getting nothing, whereas if he leaves now at least Charlton will get some money for him. This makes sense to me to try and tie him up for a longer contract just like Waggy has done and just because he is a fan, doesn't make him a better GK than say Hamer or Sullivan, in the same way that having been a great player for the club doesn't necessarily make you a great manager either.
Robbie is a fine young keeper in my opinion and will only get better and better. If he joined West Ham for example and claims the No1 jersey then he could be a Premiership goalkeeper in a year's time. With a lack of real English goalkeeping talent in this country, then I see no reason why he can't play for England - that is how much I rate him. I would be made up for him and feel very proud if that happened - although I would rather it didn't happen with West Ham! But to suggest that he is not good enough for League 1 is unbelievable in my opinion. At times, he has pulled off some of the most amazing saves - world-class saves! With the right training, he could hone his skills and really go places. I wish him well.
