Will definitely get shot down for this but anyone think it might be worth making a cheeky £2m bid for Schweinsteiger? Frozen out at United and if we can get his wages down he'd be great back up / competition for Dembele.

Palace have bid £30m for Benteke. It's truly incredible how a player can have an abysmal season and knock a year off their contract, yet their overall value doesn't change one iota.
I’ve heard something to the effect that this is face saving for Liverpool; that the thirty million includes possible incentive payments for winning the league and the Golden Boot, developing cold fusion, ending world poverty and being awarded the Nobel peace prize.

That bid was rejected the accepted bid was £27m plus £5m of add ons which are apparently achievable for CP though wouldn't be surprised if the last chunk , say 500K to £1m , is for getting top 4 whilst Benteke is there so very unlikely.
The original suggested add ons were apparently wot redwhiteandermblue said apart from he missed out the eliminating climate change one.<whistle>

Chadli is going to West Brom on loan according to Sky.
Im amazed there's any form of relationship left with them after the berahino saga!

We should string them along until deadline day, before pulling the plug for nonsensical reasons and have Levy tell the press that we haven't had time to sign a replacement.

See how they bloody like it!

so it's looking like Chadli, Mason and N'Jie on the way out as well then.

I thought we'd be using this window to strengthen, not cull our entire bench.

Only a few days left and no word on replacements/upgrades. <yikes>

This, together with last summer's cull, has been the most brutal and thorough clear out I've ever witnessed in 26 years of following football. I bloody hope Poch knows what he's doing.

Why do we keep loaning out players that we don't want and have no future at the club?
If they go out and fail then they lose value and if they succeed then they'll still be sold.

I must admit, despite saying I wouldn't be bothered if we didn't sign any more players as I felt the two pivotal areas were covered early on, the need for a pacey wideman has become apparent, so I hope Nkoudou is done soon.

The Isco link makes the taste buds water but I won't get my hopes up, I'd be astonished if we pulled that off.

It's a game of roulette isn't it? I suppose there is some sense of logic behind the decision making process:

Players who are likely to impress and improve with regular football are loaned; we hedge our bets that they'll be worth more by the end of the loan period. This explains Chadli, Njie and Bentaleb - all of whom could command £15-20m if given the chance to impress.

Players who are unlikely to improve significantly/players who dig their heels in for a permanent/players for whom we receive an offer too good to resist are sold. This explains Pritchard, Yedlin and Mason.

And then there's the exception to prove the rule, Mr Federico Fazio <laugh>

I just can't see us getting in the required replacements in such a short period of time. It's really concerning that we could be weaker than we were last season, yet have a bigger challenge on our hands. V odd.

To be fair, loaning Nabs out was a good call. If he impresses Schalke enough we'll pick up £17m where as if Schalke deem him not worthy of a perm deal then we'll hopefully have a Bentaleb with another year of footballing experience who could perhaps come back and challenge.

Chadli being loaned is weird but maybe no one out there is willing to match our asking price, so a loan to get regular game time in the hope he impresses any suitors could work out in the long run.

This loan makes no sense to me. Swap him for Berahino, sell him to them or no deal.
Chadli's 27 and his value is unlikely to increase substantially, especially given the evidence of Pritchard's loan last season.
We lent them a winger and they didn't use him at all, resulting in a frustrated player that gained no value and that we had to sell.
