On a side note gents when reflecting on the flat season, has Richard Hannon Jr had a shocker? His old man used to mop up the 2 Y O races for fun. Have they shifted away from precocious types into more middle distance or is he just not the trainer his dad was? Anyone heard anything? His strike rate down at 13% on turf this year, down from 17% two years ago. Maybe I'm just over thinking but i hadn't noted any superstars or flurry of wins (although he is 3 from his last 8 and will probably mop up on Saturday now I've said that! )
Richard Hughes also another to avoid at all costs with his 2 year olds. Always vastly underpriced and still no wins. The Hannon tag still attached to his barn in the odds compilers eyes. Edit: Stats wrong in above post. Pay no heed, thank you.
Hannons buying more expensive ones now that will be longer term prospects, the success they had over the years buying cheap 2yos was unbelievable really but how many of them went on as 3yo? Might be worth watching his in the later 7f/1m maidens this season.
Well he has had 5 2yo winners. As a first full season with no legacy I think he's doing OK. Hannon will probably have near on 200 winners this year, which is what he's done in his first 2 seasons. He just hasn't got a stand-out 3yo or 4to this year. Trainers go up and down. Look at Stoute. This year he is scoring wins at about 40% better than he has doine in the previous 3 years but he also isn't winning Group 1s. It happens.
Yes you are spot on. Don't know what made me put that there then, obviously confused him. He's 6/56 with his 2yo's. Obviously Hughes only has a relative small sample size. He's got plenty of time on his side. Hugo Palmer is showing a nice profit % with all of his 2yo's/3yo's, always worth following his newcomers lately.
I wouldn’t want to diss Junior in relation to Senior at all. The worst kept secret in racing is that Junior was really training the horses a good few years before Daddy officially retired. And its no coincidence that the yards fortunes really boomed when he did assume the mantle (unofficially). The quality of horses the yard now has puts them in the top 5 barns in the country without a doubt. Plus Junior really knows how to place his horses to achieve the maximum from them.
Hugo Palmer and Charlie Appleby are the only two I can think of that seem to be able to turn out newcomers regularly. Am I missing any others?
Prickly 2/1 - Down Royal 5.45 back over hurdles after his latest facile success on the flat at Killarney last week he should take the beating. Hard to believe this horse is not long back after his 4th wind operation, incredible. Eddie O'Grady said he could have been a top horse without those troubles but right now he seems in rude health and I think he will take this hurdle race before setting his sights back at another nice pot on the flat.
He a curious chap that Roger Brookhouse. Speeds a fortune on horses (must be one of the biggest purchasers in the NH sphere in recent terms) but doesn’t seem to ever get the return for his outlay – has had a few good horses but not one that has been really outstanding (and you certainly would expect that given what he has spent). Also seems to fall out with trainers very easily! Good luck with his pair today though.
Prickly bumped into 2 really well handicapped animals there obviously. I had backed Black Benny when he got chinned at Killarney as he was so well in but O'Regan couldn't get him home, left him after his Galway run. Mai Fitz Jack heading on an upward curve too. No disgrace from Prickly, just a few bob lighter!

If Ian had backed and been paid out on ANY CURRENCY would he be rushing to the bookies to give them their money back? Had he collected on the bet and bought a new house, car etc etc would he be selling them in order to give back his ill gotten gains...NO....Ian is a cook (change one letter).
