Last season lost the first 2. 3rd game was cup. 6-3 v Exeter. Similar pattern?
assuming no changes in the treatment room here's the team i'd go with.

pick your reason: match fitness, first team experience, lack of options/squad depth,
i'm not too familiar with the reserves so maybe a swap or two (eg. honeyman) but the cups have to be seen as secondary this season. i don't want any extra fixtures when the squad is this threadbare and getting thinner by the day. experienced reinforcements are desperately needed.

Could live with that. Although Dave may swap McNair and Rodwell. Give them a whole game together.

i thought mcnair was a cb which made me question how we started yesterday with oshea in there instead and mcnair in midfield. probably from an organisational pov made sense but mcnair didn't have a great game.
fair enough if rodwell is converting to cb for the season but if that's to be mcnairs position going forward i'd play round pegs in round holes. (i don't see any rodwell-shaped holes in that team but we've got to put this rodwell-shaped peg somewhere)
Sadly at the moment you are right. I just thought Dave see's MCNair in midfield.
Worrying though Rodwell stats at safc. 27 starts 0 wins in the league. Thankfully this is a cup.

I wouldn't even start half the first team that has been mentioned. Rodwell, Januzaj, Pienaar may need match fitness I guess but Lens and Djibilijaboogiewonderland need to be protected from injury as well as most of your first team. Even if you're losing with 10 minutes to go I wouldn't bring Defoe on, keep him for the league.
I would play PVA in midfield as he seems more interested than the rest getting forward, and Rodwell's bogey run continues 27 games my god. defoe should be rested though, I mean we will easily beat Shrewsbury right ? hehe. I reckon there will be more away supporters than ours on Wed.
