Haha, I try to avoid using soccer as much as I can...... I was in Vermont playing and coaching a few years ago and made a trip to Boston, after hearing someone who sounded like fran the nanny say , " Saawwww-kkeerrr" I was done with it lol.

Prefer football but obviously over here that name is taken. Hence I use footy a lot, pretty generic, isn't soccer and people know what you are on about. Don't want to come across like this.....

It's strange how gridiron is even called football. That's like calling football handball really, since you use your feet in gridiron about as much as you use your hands in football, if not even less.

The old lore is that the name football came about because the size of the original "football" was........ a foot. Sounds lame, probably is.
